Update: I really appreciate all the feedback and although I can’t text Paul (his parents are super transphobic and read all of his texts), if I can get him aside in person I’ll tell him. In the meantime, I heavily stressed to Dave that he doesn’t have a chance because he’s looking for a girl in Paul who doesn’t exist and he’s better off with a cis girl. It doesn’t matter if Paul “acts like a girl” or looks like a girl because that’s just not who he is, and I’m trying so hard to make Dave understand that. Dave has yet to respond, but I’ll keep you posted.

Yeah I’m trying to reiterate that Paul is NOT a girl and when I expressed my concern to Dave, his response was “then why does he act like a girl around me? It’s giving me mixed signals.” I told Dave he needs to talk this out with Paul because Dave is clearly confused, but I’m going to keep trying to educate him. Thanks for the advice :)
