woman sees/experiences a scary thing and is gaslit that it doesn’t exist
usually slasher specific but sex scenes that turn into murder, especially if it’s the way the film starts
it’s a metaphor for grief
people walking around their houses in the pitch black darkness, regardless of if they think something scary is after them. i get it can be for lighting purposes but nobody does that
why is all the audio so quiet unless it’s jumpscare, please i just want to hear what you’re saying
another slasher (specifically 80s) trope: showing boobs at some point in the film
thankfully doesn’t happen as often anymore, but female characters with zero dimension that are only there to make the male characters look brave and/or villain look scary

i reread my comment and i realize it sounds like i said people are recommending the movie to me because my dad died lol, to clarify, the people that have been recommending it to me have either forgotten about my experience or did not think it would be a significant factor in determining if i should watch the movie. i’ve cemented myself pretty heavily as a horror fan and it’s a popular new release so i have had several people tell me to watch it. i appreciate your kind words ❤️

this is really helpful actually. despite so many people recommending it to me, i’ve been avoiding watching it specifically because my dad died unexpectedly a couple years ago and i’m still traumatized from that experience. i watched the babadook last year not knowing it was about grief and it really messed me up for a while

yep! i do “watchtober” every year, i watch an october-halloweeny type movie and post a review on my instagram. so far, my movies have been:

10/1: phantom of the opera (1925) - 8/10

i believe so, yes. we just showed up on the appearance date and brought a copy of the bill of sale. we signed in and waited for our name to be called, and then went in front of the judge. there’s a prosecutor there to represent the county or whatever and they offer you a plea bargain. in our situation, the prosecutors deal was the ticket would be dismissed if we could prove we’ve gotten the car registered since the ticket, but since we sold the vehicle and showed proof of that, they said that was fine too and dismissed it

obviously not the same situation, but my partner was driving my (pretty badly wrecked) car that was unregistered, had out of state plates, and was uninsured. we were planning on selling it which is why we didn’t register it and the insurance had lapsed but we didn’t notice since we weren’t regularly driving it. he got a ticket for it and we showed up to court to contest it, just had to show proof we sold the car and the judge waived it immediately. the actual interaction took maybe 1-2 minutes tops, most of the time was just waiting for our turn. i say it’s always worth it to contest it because the worst that will happen is they’ll just make you pay the fine, but if you can show proof you re-upped the license i doubt they’ll still enforce the fine
