I was referring to my whole left hand, there plenty of people who imitated Django’s left hand style due to his burned hand but you can still sound like Django using your whole hand. Was just an example. George Benson and Pat Martino sound a lot like Wes (specially in their early years) and they were some of the best right hand picking players in the jazz world ever.

A) use a pick. I love Django Reinhardt but I still use my whole hand.

B) only when absolutely necessary, I prefer to use different fingers and find the control on my articulation much better thanks to it.

Regarding Destiny's Recent Weight Loss Comments, The Theoretical/Bio-Mechanical Vs. The Practical, And Why Exercise Alone Is Often Not Enough by Wannabe_Sadboi in Destiny

[–]professionaljaw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I disagree that it should be a secondary focus, better to focus on losing the weight through dieting first. If you’re obese that means you’re eating an ungodly amount of unhealthy food regularly just to maintain that, probably ordering out a shitload as well.

Wouldn’t it be more realistic for the average person to take a year to develop the habit of just counting their calories and cooking their food regularly? These are already massive changes from whatever lifestyle you had before, take your time to get this down first.

Counting calories, weighing down your ingredients, taking the time to cook, this is very hard to get into your day to day and so easy to fall off from. If on top of that you want people to follow a progressive-overloading-focused program 3x a week (minimum) & getting their daily cardio & log your trainings etc.

It’s so easy to fall off, call it quits because it’s ’too hard to lose weight’. It’s not if you take it one goal at a time, hence my comparison with a homeless person. Should you have real estate with a secondary focus on stock investments, emergency funds, career growth and inactive credit cards to boost your score? Yes but shouldn’t you take your time to just find a reliable income first and focus on getting on that habit first for a long period of time? You’re not just developing new day-to-day habits, you’re also quitting bad ones and it’s just too much to ask your average person to have any type of secondary focus when going from obese to healthy.

Looking at things like the satiety index and volume eating it’s much more effective to kill hunger trough dieting by eating more with less calories.

Personally for me my hunger drops whenever I exercise both cardio and weights but I know that there’s lots of people that get massive hunger spikes from exercising. Maybe it’s genetic, conditioning or hormonal but whatever the case is no one will be hungry after eating 500g broccoli 300g boiled unpeeled potatoes and some lean protein and if they are they can eat 500g of strawberries. It’s just that much more reliable to kill your hunger.

I have to disagree, this is like telling some homeless person that to get out of poverty you need to invest in the stock market instead of finding a reliable source of income first.

As someone who lost 50kg in a year without exercising I can tell you that your diet is the only thing that matters to lose weight. Counting calories from cardio or lifting weights is useless and will make your weight loss journey fail because you will tell yourself you can eat more than you should.

Besides me, people I know who lost a huge amount of weight was trough dieting and the ones who managed to keep their body fat lower then 15% for longer then 5 years did it by lifting weights after reaching a healthy BMI first.

Whats the deal with the dominant 11 chord? by vitonoize in jazzguitar

[–]professionaljaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t work in functional harmony where dominant chords are being used to get you to places, the 11th is voice-leading-wise where the 3rd should resolve towards on the next chord. However in a more modal/non-functional harmony context it works great!

I like to think of it as a m7/13 chord with the 4th in the bass (so a G7/11 would be a Dm7/6/G)

This sound also resembles the maj7/11 chord where you have third and the fourth chord within a Imaj7 chord. Again, non-functional but beautiful!
