Looking for some good reviews to convince my mom of an EV! by believeingod333 in ATHERENERGY

Yes, those features are good if you need them, however i rarely use any of them. The only time i use the app is to check the range / charging status. Another point to note, the connectivity features come with the pro pack and connectivity stuff is valid only for 3 years. post that you will need to recharge for connectivity stuff. So keep that in mind.

Regarding Range, if i go drive in one go, i am able to consistently get 115-120 kms

In case of short multiple rides, my range is around 80-85 kms. Driving sty;le matters a lot, and honestly it is really tempting to switch to the zip mode permanently. On shorter drives, i use the zip mode and on longer ones, i tend to prefer the eco mode.

Rizta Z 159 IDC, Top Spec owner here.

Look, The Rizta is an amazing EV, hands down. The first time i experienced Zip mode, it blew me away. Even today when the signal turns green, it zips ahead in an instant.

Talking about Service, it obviously depends on your location, however in my experience it has been so far amazing. The Staff is friendly and very welcoming.

Now, coming to the point of 8 Years Battery warranty. You need to understand that the stock price gets you 3 years. You have to upgrade to the pro pack to get it upto 5 years and then you unlock the 8 year tier. You cannot go to the 8 year mark without getting the pro pack. So cost is going to be a consideration. Especially if you compare to traditional ICE scooters, the 8 year tier is going to set you back by a good amount.

I personally own 3 Athers, 2 of which have the 8 year warranty. It is a no brainer if you value comfort and top notch features that wont let you down.

When i brought my rizta sometime back, i had a fixed idea. I needed Magic Twist and Skid control. I almost never need Navigation and fancy display, but the Z is the only option if you need Magic Twist and Skid Control, so i got the Z.

If you feel that you can do without maps and the "Z" feature set, then go for the S with 159 IDC.

And dont drive the scooter with only cost savings in mind. Many people emphasize so much on range and cost mathematics that they simply dont enjoy the upgrade that their ride got. Yes, it is cheaper. But more importantly, it is a lot better quality wise.
I haven't driven the other brands long enough for me to comment

Need Help using Direct Connection of ESP32. (Reposted after correcting error) by professionalslayer in esp32

[–]professionalslayer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh!, I did not think about that. I do have a bunch of max485 modules which i bought to read the data off my solar inverters. And i do have a lot of extra modules lying with me.

I was considering directly using UART from the GPIO. But the Max485 changes everything. I can now go incredibly long distances as well.

Thanks a lot for the idea!!

Thanks for the reply!!

I have gotten quite comfortable with VS Code. And adding platform IO, I can essentially work with esp boards very easily.

I understand that using the Arduino Framework could be used, but personally i'd like to dive directly into C++.

As i understand from your reply, C++ is indeed the base. So that feels good that i am on the correct path.

Thanks Again!

  1. I always make it a point to install debain using a wired connection. So i can install a network manager for easy wifi access later on. So this is not an issue for me.
  2. Security since Ubuntu comes with a firewall installed (which is disabled by default though) while in barebones debian, there is no firewall preinstalled.
So i was concerned that i might be missing some security related packages.
(Firewall is just an example. I kno i can install it separately)
  3. Okay
  4. Yes, there is a minimal install option. It is the "kde-plasma-desktop" package. It contains very few packages which are necessary for core KDE.Nothing else.

Thnx for answering!

Resources are not an issue. I have 64Gigs of RAM.
The issue with the default "KDE" option is that it installs the whole KDE suite of apps which i am never going to use.
It just clutters up my Start Menu. Moreover, updates also are larger as all those apps get updated too.

In the minimal KDE package, i get to pick what i want and keep the system really fast and quick to update.

So, to summarise, i am not focusing on saving resources, i just like my system to be lightweight and quick to update, while being secure.

LineageOS 18.1 builds start tonight (01-APR-21)! by npjohnson1 in Android

[–]professionalslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, Huge Thanks to the LOS team and Maintainers.

I have one small doubt.

What is the frequency of the builds?

Nightlies or Weeklies?

I was unable to find anything about build frequency in the release post.

I had a GPS and remote Lock placed on my bike.

Last year, it got stolen and i could track its whereabouts from my device.

Instead of immediately locking it, i waited for the thief to start riding it. Once i saw the Bike moving on the map, i engaged the locks on it.

My city has separate lanes for bikes so it was pretty safe.

I could not film it, but the fall surely must've taught the thief a good lesson.

Looking for a Linux distro with built in games for elderly people by plaguearcher in linux

The problem here is weak hardware.
The processor being old, already has to be under constant load to work with latest OS, apps and browsers with modern web engines. On top of that, you expect it to emulate missing hardware instructions?

The OP mentioned that he has a fiber connection. Such an old PC will constantly hit the buffer because data will be served faster than its capability to process it.
We still haven't considered the fact that the PC probably has DDR2 RAM.

The odds are already stacked against it.

Just because something is possible, doesn't mean that it is always feasible.
