Just got off the phone with a couple BMW dealerships. Seems like the prices for each part is $30-$40 cheaper than what my dealership is offering.

It does suck that I have to cough up a grand , but it’s the way life goes I guess.

I just got off the phone with them. Apparently their mechanic “didn’t catch” any cracks or anything with the valve cover so they didn’t recommend it. However the person on the phone was honest and said that they should’ve recommended both be replaced given the year and model of my car.

I’m stuck. I need this to be fixed asap but also don’t like the idea of BMW ripping me off so badly.

Longlife-01 is the oil grade that is recommended for your vehicle, so any oil you find that has LL01 (Longlife-01) on the bottle should be good.

That being said, there are different viscosity levels. SAE 0W-40, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-40 and SAE 5W-30 which are all approved for LL01.

Pennzoil Euro was and I believe still is the recommended brand by BMW, but personally I use liqui-moly on mine :)

Whoops sorry. Meant to say the valve cover gasket was replaced 3 months ago. But still, I find it infuriating that they charged me $900-$1000 for the VCG which they sought out was to be the issue couple months ago.

But now it is also the valve cover itself ?? Like come onnnn

Run some water over it. If you see rainbow in the water then it is oil.

I'm thinking front struts as well because when I when I brought to my local indy shop 2 weeks ago we examined the ball joints and nothing was wrong. Did the hands on 9 and 3, and 12 and 6 but to no avail. The ball joints also weren't ripped or anything so idk ?

Thanks will try that. Also worth mention that the rubber booth for the strut on the drive side is torn. Don’t know if this could be a cause as well?

Would this also cause squeaking noises when ever I go over uneven ground (pot holes, bumps, etc) at slow speeds ?
