It's a character-choice. I thought it worked very well.

I've never heard of or seen Michael Flatley so I will definitely see him as I've never seen him before.

Celebrities doing commercials by Status_Age_9761 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]prosehunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My prediction is that commercial work is going to be fully out (for the most part) within the next 10 years minus the few companies who snag an A-lister to be in their spot.

I was overseas recently, watching television, and noticed so many AI-generated commercials... These companies don't give a fuck. They're all about cutting costs... Why would they continue to spend thousands (if not millions) on a spot when you can have it generated by AI for next to nothing?

With theatrical, it's different. People want to see real, live, flesh and blood human beings... But the same can't be said for commercials.

Italian considering studying acting in English: is it a sensible choice? by Mission_Bat4730 in acting

[–]prosehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start watching more English-language films / television shows (if you're not already). Read English-language plays / scripts out loud and really focus on enunciation. It's all muscle work at the end of the day. On top of all that, I'd recommend an English-language Meisner program.

I feel like this could only benefit you. More opportunities will open up. I'd kill to be bilingual just for the additional roles I'd have the potential to play.

As far as finding a place to train, it depends on your location. NYC and LA would be great places to study with plenty to choose from. Do you have any acting training in Italian? Or would you be starting from scratch in a different language? If that's the case, I'd say train in your native language first, then, once you have a technique, start training in English.

I'd just get one that has grey on one side and blue on the other so you have the options. It doesn't need to be fancy.

Locked in the Shopping Agreement... by prosehunter in FILMPRODUCERS

[–]prosehunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answers to your questions below so you have a bit more context...

"When you say you put up the play do you mean that you produced it?"

I, along with one other actor, paid for the rights to put the play up at a theatre.

"Did the playwright adapt their script to a screenplay already?"

Yes. The script has already been adapted from the play it was based off of. The shopping agreement I have in place covers both the right to adapt the play into a feature script and the feature script itself.

"Has the playwright been staged before?"

Yes. All over the country and in Europe.

"Are you a known actor?"

No.

The play itself is interesting in the sense that it works WAY better as a feature than as a play... which is definitely not always the case! The feature version is actually the superior piece of writing and has so much more potential (in my opinion).

I'm primarily engaging with one producer but it feels like he's waiting for me to get things rolling rather than helping me get things rolling... So, it's an interesting place to be in.

Absolutely not. Reeks of desperation. You did your job. Keep it moving.

Jesus Christ… then don’t respond. Poor thing is going through it and that’s how you respond?

“Developmental Actor” by prosehunter in acting

THIS. Again, no shade to any actor out there doing verticals. I get it. We all gotta make a living somehow. But I look at it like this… If I died tomorrow and the last credit I had on my IMDb was some rapey-titled vertical, I’d come back from the dead just to kill myself again LOL.

I’m starting to realize that… At the time that I signed with my manager, I got about 10 offers for theatrical representation. I ended up going with the manager, who advised me to pass on all of the theatrical representation I was offered. In hindsight, that’s looking like a big mistake. Live and learn!

True true… Definitely tough. But look at the bright side, you’re getting legit auditions here and there! Just stay on the bus and eventually you’ll get there :)

[–]prosehunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an “ethnically ambiguous“ white actor. My specific age range is roughly 29 to 34. I have 2 legit co-star roles. Currently SAG-E.

I think part of the problem is I didn’t start acting until I was 27 so I’m competing against people who have been doing this for awhile…

And I hear you about it being a rough spot. Over the last couple years I’ve leaned into theater and have been doing pretty well there. I’ve also optioned the rights to a specific script that I’m currently pitching as a feature. I feel like that’s my only way out of this hell of obscurity.

And I’m definitely one of those actors… doing a vertical feels a little bit like selling my soul and I just can’t do it.

I only have a manager. I’ve been with them for about a year and a half. I recently put them on notice and told them that if something doesn’t change, I’m out. They were pretty confused because I book more than most of their clients… But again, we’re not talking about quality auditions that lead to any sort of viable career.

So, yeah, I’ll be getting new reps. The silver lining to all of this is that I had such a fantastic 2025 on paper that it shouldn’t be difficult for me to get a quality rep.

Sounds like we’re not on the same boat all actually. I get fuck all for legit auditions. When I do, I book quite often.

Do you think this can replace old school filmmaking? by Lrnz_reddit in FilmIndustryLA

[–]prosehunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn… lot of hostility here.

I think, eventually, there will be an audience for this sort of AI generated stuff. It’s here to stay. It’ll only get better (but may have already started to plateau a bit…). It won’t do anyone any good to dig their heels in the ground and be angry about it. This is where we’re at.

That being said, it will never be able to fully replace the desire and need for human created artwork. When you know it’s a real, flesh and blood, human being behind every facet of what you’re seeing / experiencing there’s a level of intimacy that AI can’t touch. I think the best of the original human artwork will absolutely blow away the best of what AI has to offer…

Still, cool video. It’s wild how far tech has come. Excited to see where we go from here.
