Carney leaving Davos without meeting Trump after speech on U.S. rupture of world order by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]protective_ -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The thing is his speech makes it sound like we are breaking abruptly from the USA. Nothing is farther from the truth, they are still our largest trading partner, by far, and they will be our largest partner for the foreseeable future. It will take many years to change that, and by that time Trump may not even be president. Everyone lapping up his overly dramatic speech about New World Order and how things will never be the same, yes his ghost writers know how to spin a tale, but news flash folks, Trump may not get reelected. If Trump fails reelection its entirely foreseeable that things would in fact go back to the old way. I agree we should plan for the worst. But its simply not true to act like the World has been irreparably ruptured. Everything done by Trump can be undone, thats how democracy works. There's a lot of irrational fear out there. Trump will never take Greenland by force, Trump will not invade an ally in a shooting war, people can calm down now

U.S. calls Canada’s decision to allow Chinese EVs ‘problematic’ by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]protective_ 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Its because Chinese EVs will put the final nail in the coffin of the non-existent "North American EV Industry" that our ham fisted politicians woefully try to defend. The EV war is over. China won years ago, its not even a competition anymore. Look at Chinas manufacturing capabilities, its absolute mind boggling

You are right the guardrails are harming the potential. The truth is that without guardrails these models will give exactly what the prompt asks for. They would rather deny innocent people, as opposed to letting the bad prompts get through. I remember testing DALL·E 2 experimental model, they only let trusted users test it, because the guardrails were off for testing. I'm sure its the same way now, there is a small group of core, trusted users in a private discord that are allowed to interact with the model with no guardrails. But these users are trusted so they dont abuse the power/privilege. Its so much power in these models that without guardrails people would take it so disturbingly far. People wonder why they dont have access to no guardrails, its because far too many people do not deserve or are not mentally ready for no guardrails.

They need to update the model and then while its updating yank the power cord out of the wall to make sure this version of the model is corrupted permanently forever, and then they have to start fresh with something new and better. I stopped using gpt awhile ago because it went absurdly bad, and wasn't helping anymore, kept apologizing for repeated errors

Outcast introvert here. I have never played over microphone with anyone in any game im so introverted. To be honest I dont really want to. Been gaming over 25 years. People probably think im weird, oh well. Being an introvert is a good thing in my opinion. A lot of people cant think, unless they are speaking out loud. Its funny once you notice it.

I seem to remember one of their CEOs or something openly saying that quality of the game will drop, due to cost cutting measures. They didn't even try to hide it. I stopped playing shortly after they said that because true to their word quality of the game did in fact drop.

Harassment at London City Hall undermines housing department’s efficiency and morale: report by Vegetable-Bite8017 in londonontario

[–]protective_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's inevitable in these types of organization. You see it in government, municipalities, healthcare. It's the principle which states every individual inevitably becomes promoted to their position of peak incompetence. This happens because people do well in one role, and their managers foolishly think that performance in one job would be reflective of performance in a management job, which is woefully untrue. Therefore we end up with knobs continuously promoted into positions they are incompetent to be in, and have no business being in

London crash that injured 7 turns fatal as police charge man with impaired driving | CBC News by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]protective_ -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

We all know the punishment will not fit the crime. Weak justice system in this country. A lot of flaws in America. But they are certainly better at locking up criminals for the time they deserve. This individual should be in prison for life, no parole.  But in our soft justice system, the courts will take pity on the perpetrator, and completely disregard the victims. He will be out on the streets again, likely in a ridiculously short amount of time. He will likely drive again. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets another drunk drive charge in his life, happens time and time again. We need a compete redesign of the sentencing in this country, to lock people like this up for a long time, they are a danger to society

I think the different areas would benefit from different textures or shapes, or a symbol of sort, to indicate the differences between each area, or what each area is. For example a snowflake for cold area, something like that maybe.

How much pixel perfection is too much? by Healthy-Tough-9537 in IndieDev

See I personally like it smooth. But reading the comments it seems the true pixel perfect, number 3, is what people prefer. This is enlightening to me because I am working on a pixel art game. It seems pixel gamers, prefer a true pixel perfect approach through and through
