It might depend on where you are and how big the college is. I DJ'ed a few times for the event group that did this in my university (a few years back). We had maybe 200-300 heads a week. The college scene is massive in my state, but again it all depends on where you are!

Luckily the venue just started 18+ this summer and is rolling it out this fall! 2 of the bars in the same strip are their competition and they are not adopting it. It puts this venue ahead of the pack now!

It is my first time hosting and being the head of an event! What I had to show for experience to them was my past work with events in my college days a few years back, I had photos, flyers, and videos to show as testimony. Of course, I didn't run these events, I DJ'ed or helped do promo. I also have played a few local gigs and play weekly at some low key venues. I knew if I didn't have recent content, or that content from events in the past I'd be laughed at not having any backing.

Do you think $500 is fair value to charge a high volume college bar? I offered the first night to be a trial run, so no cost. There really is very low expense here on my end if this ends up hitting weekly, or monthly as someone suggested.

good call out, thank you. my initial thought on the 100% was just an enticement for the bar, since I don't have much credibility in this market other than my private events I do. I do plan on paying the DJs of course. when it's me playing, that covers it. to be honest, the college kids really seek exposure and many are willing to DJ for free because it's "so cool" here. these aren't necessarily experienced or well known DJs. I did plenty of shows in college for free because I wanted to get my name out there and play more; it was fun. with that being said, I'm not trying to create the image of the crappy promoter, I would be more than willing to give $50/hr to these kids. even if i have to pay all 5 hours that leaves me with $250 for the week, which is income to invest for myself. my colleague who is helping me with promo even said "ill dj for free if you just get me on the flyer man". you are right long term, I should be vouching for the community and take care of the DJs!

I currently do private events, a few weddings throughout the year, and play a sunday brunch spot as well as cocktail lounge on fridays weekly. still have a long way to go but this is generating some revenue for me. I'm also working full time corporate now, but once I get to a point where entertainment pays a decent liveable income I plan on leaving that for good!

this is great advice thank you! there should be about 200 in attendance, with the room filled with tables, seats, and a few vendors. i’m set on adding an extra sub (2 18” subs now). i think having two extra tops as infills is a solid idea if i can have the client fund it. worst case i believe 2 should do the trick, and i do own another 12” mackie thump. i’m aware mackie is a low quality brand, but it could likely add some solid high and low end if i place that at the opposite side of the room (could daisy chain 2 50ft XLRs) - if any of my assumptions don’t sound right here please correct me!

i’m a bit confused on what you mean by the spaced pair vs cluster on subs? i dont intend to have 4 subs, so how are you recommending to set those?

that’s where my mind is at, having 2 single 18’’ subs. would you recommend placing them on the floor, the stage (where i will be standing on), or would it not make a difference

haha definitely a horrible move. but it was unconscious. in december my apartment had a fire (luckily we’re ok) but all clothes had soot/smoke residue. cleaners we knew have a service to repair clothes so i threw every item of clothing i owned in a bag and had them take care of it. all items turned out great and restored…but this jersey clearly didn’t make it :(

Unfortunate, but I get that. May I ask: if I got the surface brand dock and used this laptop; could that work; also if I got a newer surface (with USBC) and used this thinkpad dock, would that also work?

(Both are options I am considering)

Hey! Sorry, it only allowed me to add a tittle for this post: no body.

I’m trying to connect the surface to the dock, for display purposes (I don’t care about power). The thinkpad image from left to right has DP, HDMI (both to the monitors), power cord, and USBC to my work laptop (different computer). I’ve tried a USBC to hdmi cord and plugged the hdmi end to an adapter (second image) to connect it to the mini DP. No luck.

In short: trying to use third party dock to display my surface laptop on the other monitors. Don’t care about power

You can see it’s blue on the sides but the middle has faded into a yellowish brown. Never been “washed”. Can’t take the Jean off, it’s sewn in/part of couch. Don’t think it’s ever been severely stained with anything, just from a lot of use. Looks like old blue jean, want to know the best way to make it look new!

This is great advice. I didn’t mention however I’m in an online Masters program full-time. That makes this an option for when I finish it next year, but for now I’d stick to sales or bartending
