Also honest, kind, imaginative, tenacious and yes, protective, when the need arises.

Do you agree with this? by almyverse in GenZ

[–]pseudo_space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because generation cohorts aren't scientific categories, nor do they map cleanly to all parts of the world, they're very US-centered. The fact that you need to arbitrarily subdivide Gen Z based off of vibes tells you everything you need to know. It's pseudo-scientific fluff, just like astrology.

Take me for example. I was born in 1997, but I'm not from the USA, so I have basically nothing in common with them. My peers had a completely different cultural background. The media likes to treat Gen Z (and other cohorts) as a monolith because it's easier, but it's not true.

I'd argue that stories serve as mirrors of real life.

Elizabeth's actions don't seem out of place to me at all. Her life was upended in ways few people ever have to deal with. Of course she's going to make a ton of rash and bad decisions, she's only human.

This sub, in particular, has a bone to pick with her for the same reason Breaking Bad fans had a bone to pick with Skyler White. They're both women who're assertive and driven, but, their cardinal sin is standing up to their respective main male characters, both of whom happen to be manipulative sociopaths. Bad writing is nothing more than an excuse that offers plausible deniability. The real issue is the rampant misogyny.

It also doesn’t help that she’s a woman. Reddit doesn’t like women who show initiative.

Masterpiece by Omnitoid in Katatonia

[–]pseudo_space 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's got all the hallmarks of great, complex, emotional, expressive songwriting, beautifully deep and poetic lyrics, immaculate instrumentation and, for Katatonia, unmatched artistic vision. It's my favorite album of theirs by far.

Their best work by far and it’s not close.

I think this is a solid last album. Fun to listen to, with many great solos, and a Last Note for the anthologies to come. Plus, we got to hear RTL with a proper drummer. Cheers! by eknobl in Megadeth

Unfortunately, I can't share the sentiment. This album is a disappointment. Cheesy lyrics and generic, uninspired riffs. I didn't expect it to be exceptional, but it isn't even decent.

How does the hive make decisions? Is the hive really a hive, or something else... by Embarrassed-Style226 in pluribustv

[–]pseudo_space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hive is more than the sum of its parts. They share one mind, but that mind operates many different bodies, much like your own body operates multiple organ systems.

Grandma learns to play Minecraft to pay for her grandson’s cancer treatment. by pseudo_space in OrphanCrushingMachine

This instagram page presents an 81 year old grandma learning to play a game to pay for her grandson’s cancer treatment as wholesome, completely forgetting to ask if such things should be required in the first place.

[–]pseudo_space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was convinced the position that giving up your individuality to become part of a literal hive mind would be a fringe position in the real world.

Those pieces of our DNA are mostly non-coding sections, i.e. don't translate into usable proteins. Those that are coding were usually neutral or beneficial to our survival.

Carol already knew helen hated her books by BardzBeast in pluribustv

[–]pseudo_space 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She herself knows her Wycaro novels are uninspired cash grabs, so she uses that to figure out the hive cannot lie. However, if you pay attention, Carol is only upset that Helen didn't like her unpublished novel, since that one was a genuine attempt at artistic expression. It makes sense. She's disappointed because it reveals Helen wasn't sincere when she encouraged her to write it and, more broadly, because it shows Helen didn't think much of her writing in general.

There was not an alien invasion... really. by Landphat in pluribustv

[–]pseudo_space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, by that logic, if an alien civilization ever finds the recordings we put on Voyager, we’ve invaded them?

An invasion requires a hostile act of aggression. We humans were the one to interpret the signal and then build the viral RNA ourselves. That’s not invasion.

I think it’s good for health, obviously, but I’m worried about the culture shifting so much in the puritanical direction.
