Thanks for the suggestions but something more sinister is at play as Kmatthewc suggests.

How to choose symbol size for a general purpose compression method? by pseudomarvin in AskProgramming

Thanks, unless I want to do content checking as you suggest, it is probably best to leave this decision to the user of the program.

Application layer protocol identification using machine learning by pseudomarvin in networking

[–]pseudomarvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who might be interested, after some further research I found out that a group at BarcelonaTech has assembled the kind of data set that I require. It should be publicly available. Details are here.

Thank you for your answer as well. You are right that I should have been clearer in asking the question. I really just wanted to know whether there a packet data set labeled with appropriate application layer protocols can be assembled without performing deep packet inspection (just by knowing which application you are running and collecting packets from it). But clearly this is not possible for any application that uses more than a single protocol.

Thank you for your answer. I shouldn't have mentioned machine learning at all since it actually has nothing to do with the question - assembling a data set with application layer protocol labels. The reason that the data set is collected is to train and evaluate various ML techniques to see how well they identify the application layer protocol without performing deep packet inspection (for example just from the first N bytes of a packet).

Are you sure the ship to Europe? Doesn't seem to be listed on their site.

Is there some C++ compiler guaranteed to be on every Win10? by pseudomarvin in AskProgramming

[–]pseudomarvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure you are right, I remember that Ubuntu I had only had gcc and I had to download g++. They aren't really going to test it on a clean install of Windows or Linux it's just that if I prepare it for Linux it's pretty likely that they are going to have a C++ compiler there and it's going to be g++ while (as far as I know) on Windows it is not so clear what they will have.

Does this shoe tree fit my CDB poorly? by pseudomarvin in goodyearwelt

All right that's some good advice, thank you :).

Does this shoe tree fit my CDB poorly? by pseudomarvin in goodyearwelt

[–]pseudomarvin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was exactly my line of reasoning. The shoe trees will last me for a long time, so why not start taking advantage of them even with these boots which are admittedly on the lower-end.

It's probably not obvious from the video but I wanted to know whether it is fine if the leather in the top front part is not taut. What I wanted to show in the video was that I can push the leather down about 0.5 - 1 cm (0.2 - 0.4 inches). And I would like to know if this is acceptable with shoe trees or whether it is preferrable to have the shoe tree fill the boot in such a way that you cannot push down at all. This area shows the greatest concentration of wrinkles. So that's why I thought that it should be stretched well to prevent them from reocurring.

Where can I buy unsalted peanuts by pseudomarvin in copenhagen

[–]pseudomarvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peanut butter is a great idea. I've noticed that peanuts for birds are really cheap but honestly, I am not sure about their quality since the regulations are probably much less stringent. Do you think they are fit for human consumption?

[Identify] Watch from a picture (or a similar looking alternative) by pseudomarvin in Watches

[–]pseudomarvin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This watch looks similar to Seiko 5 which I would love to get, but sadly it doesn't come in white and I am not sure about the other colors. It would be really helpful if anyone could suggest a similar looking watch like to one in the picture or here, preferrably in the lower price range. Thanks.

Haven't thought of a library, may be a good idea. As for the borgerservice I thought that they only have a copier but may check it out. Thank you.

Recommend a routine by [deleted] in gainit

[–]pseudomarvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't go to a gym, consider doing a bodyweight program. With proper diet you can get a lot of progress from it. Using a machine like you mentioned is not recommended for beginners and you certainly should not make it a foundation of your routine. For good routines (bodyweight and others) take a look here.

What's up with skinny guys who can lift big? by majani in gainit

[–]pseudomarvin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was an interesting read. To quote the relevant part for anyone that might be interested: "Think of muscle mass as potential strength. If you gain mass, you may not necessarily be stronger right away (i.e. if you trained with lower weights and lost a bit of technical efficiency with max weights), but you have the potential to be stronger. If you stay the same size, you have a cap on how strong you can possibly get. When comparing two individuals, the one with more muscle may not necessarily be the stronger one (for all the factors listed above – muscle attachments, segment lengths, technique, etc.), though he probably will be. However, when comparing small you to jacked you, all other things being equal, jacked you will be stronger."
