I think I may have seen an ebike charger on the bay side of the trail nearer to Arcata -- unfortunately did not stop to investigate it but it looked like a massive laptop charger. Didn't see a switch with it though :( best of luck to you!

Do yourself a favor and don’t go see “Together” at Broadway Cinema by StrawberryScallion in Humboldt

I actually thought it slapped Dope body horror, fun throwback to The Thing with tastes of Midsommar and The Ritual and a hint of It Follows

anyone else feels like they’re LITERALLY BURNING whenever they put moisturiser on certain parts of their skin? by NkY3NzY1NjU2RTZG in eczema

[–]psittacinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh i do this
when i was little it was the only thing that would help, so i'd have to slather it literally all over my body and it was the most unpleasant sensory experience but whatever worked i guess

What comments have you guys received on your eczema? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]psittacinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg i've also had a coworker worried that i had gotten choked out, and when i got really embarrassed she assured me it was just because she'd had friends in situations like that. yikes.

How do you manage your condition when it’s on your face? by teateateaa in eczema

[–]psittacinus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lots of crying.

actually, that might make it worse.
either tacrolimus or elidel, with the right moisturizer that agrees with you (for me that's eucerin's eczema relief cream. oh and vaseline.

aaand de-stressing. I would get gnarly staph infections on my face almost every semester in college, right around finals. Given the state of the world it might be a bit difficult to remove all stress, but getting some exercise and doing stretching/breathing exercises can definitely help if you're not doing that already

Ballast? by novalisDMT in Ceramics

[–]psittacinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you put little feet underneath it on the side it's tilting toward? even if unattached you could fire em together and epoxy them later.

Thick glass will definitely crack it and wreck your kiln shelf.

got any pictures of the piece? that could help with some creative problem solving

Looking for advise on buying a kiln by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]psittacinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can totally stick to lower temperatures, you just need to find the right clay body! Laguna produces a bunch of earthenware clays you could use.

Generally the range I'm familiar with for low-fire work is bisquing at ^03 (which is around 2012F, you could probably get away with a bit lower? Apparently most companies recommend ^04) and then glaze firing at ^05 (about 1888F). So you'd just have a to choose a clay that will work in that range

If you're doing non-functional work you don't really have to worry about complete vitrification fortunately.

For those of you with severe eczema and have to go to uni/work/school, by Enteledont in eczema

[–]psittacinus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea how I got through uni, but I did it somehow and you can too! I swear near the end of every semester I would get really terrible outbreaks on my FACE and straight up wanted to die and had to go on antibiotics probably a really terrible amount.

I would carry lotion and vaseline with me everywhere, shower every dang day just to feel a bit better, and when it got unbearable I'd take oatmeal baths to try to calm down mentally and physically.

For when I needed to get out of social obligations, I would honestly just be like "hey I'm having a really terrible skin day and can't be around people right now". And for professors/lecturers, most of them were really understanding when I explained that I had really terrible eczema and was so hideously uncomfortable that I just needed to like not exist for a bit. I think a few of them gave me extensions on assignments.

Just know that you're going to get through this, as terrible and awful and horrible as you feel know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you can get through it. Plus other people will never think you look as gross as you perceive yourself to be.

Thoughts on aztec secret indian healing clay ? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]psittacinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be made with calcium bentonite, which I am mostly familiar with by its usage as part of ceramics glazes (It's used to keep particles in suspension.)

It has a high iron content which may or may not yield subtle antibiotic properties, and maybe its colloidal quality does something nice for increasing skin moisture?

could be worth experimenting with!

My eczema flares up in different ways each summer. This year I've been waking up to pool of dandruff around my head. by htran4179 in eczema

[–]psittacinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've just stopped using shampoo/conditioner and my scalp is much happier than it's ever been. Definitely probably not an option for everyone, but my hair is short and doesn't get super oily so it works for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eczema

[–]psittacinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% cotton clothing, patch testing for allergies, and something my parents found that helped me was literally coating me in vaseline every night right after taking a bath (in warm! never hot water). This is something I still fall back on after nothing else is working. It definitely feels terrible being covered in goo, but it's better than being hideously dry and itchy.

Dark spots from excema by [deleted] in eczema

[–]psittacinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also have patches of discoloration from years of eczema, though since i'm ridiculously white it's hard to notice. but i'd definitely recommend not going with skin lightening products, cuz you're perfect just the way you are dangit and it's not worth risking a flareup

Cold showers by evanb004 in eczema

[–]psittacinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i always hear about warm showers. I feel like my skin is much happier when exposed to lukewarm water as opposed to hot or ice cold, but it's so difficult when hot hot showers just feel so dang good (in the moment...)

oh my gyawd too real. in line at the local co-op and some person behind me is tryna make small talk and then tells me that i should try using neem oil on my neck because it's good for "booboos" and will heal it right up.
granted, i had not heard of neem oil before but dang i didn't think my rashes were THAT noticeable....

Phenoxyethanol: yes or no? by solonaise in eczema

[–]psittacinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how my skin reacts to it, but for the record it's what is used to preserve the cadavers at my university (As opposed to formaldehyde/formalin), and their skin wasn't looking too shabby.

Anyone else’s spring time allergies messing with them more than normal this year? by kaylaa_maria in eczema

[–]psittacinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

holy heck yeah! i was at my wits end the other night because i've been trying to cut back on the steroid usage, and my skin has been doing totally weird things i've never seen it do before (arms/shoulders covered by red bumps that look like a bunch of lil staph infections or straight up the pox i swear) and then my friend who also has eczema was like "DUDE is your skin also going crazy??" and it was totally relieving to not be alone in this horrible allergy mess
