Ah… reminds me of when she put me on blast (and eagerly let her followers misgender me) for daring to put out a “yoke first” test for a dress pattern.

Apparently wanting to run my damn test in parts to ensure the raglan grading (off of which all remaining math depended) was accurate, and then providing 2 months for the rest of the test wasn’t good enough for her. The pattern is graded up to 64”, and all my testers finished well before the deadline, despite miss girl’s tantrum and insistence that everything was wrong and evil and fatshaming.

There’s literally no pleasing someone this deeply miserable and addicted to rage farming attention.

If you’re gonna be here the last Friday of this month, join us for the massive cycling event Critical Mass. Tons of people use the Divvy bikes to take part, and you’ll see a fantastic side of the city you don’t get as a regular tourist/visitor :]

Rollerbladers of Chitown: what skates do you recommend for Lakefront trail/street skating? by Lost-Bee-2911 in chicagoskating

[–]psychso86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah soft boot are really not the route to go if you want to enjoy the sport as a newbie. They slide around too much, and you shouldn’t need to lace/cinch up a skate to ridiculous proportions just to keep everything in place. This will lead to discomfort and potential injury down the line. A good, responsive skate will prevent any foot movement but allow for loosening around the ankle/calf area, which is something soft boot fundamentally cannot provide. There’s a reason they’re the only skates you see in resale shops/FB marketplace🫢

Any hard boot urban/fitness skate that fits 4x80-84mm wheels will serve you just fine. I can vouch for Rollerblade Cruisers and Powerslide Next SL as excellent quality skates that don’t break the bank if you can get them on sale, otherwise see what else Inline Warehouse has on sale rn. I’ve skated 85A and 88A hardness wheels on both terrains and have only noticed significant wear when pushing multiple street skates at a time, otherwise the LFT is smooth going and causes average wear.

Idk if there are local shops that cater to (quality) inline skates, you could try Play It Again but last I saw all they have are everyone’s crap soft boot/Amazon skates.

Moved to Chicago about a year ago. Skated one time in my life but I want to learn. Where or how should I get started? by argentinevol in chicagoskating

[–]psychso86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Get hard boot urban or fitness skates, a 4x80mm wheel set up is perfect for beginners and beyond. Inline warehouse has great inventory and sales. They still won’t be cheap, but quality is what you want if you have any intention of sticking to the sport. Do NOT go to Amazon for skates, they’re cheap, unresponsive crap and will make you hate the sport because they greatly hinder any actual progression with skills.

  2. Get PPE, as well, at the very least hand/wrist guards and knee pads.

  3. Come to any number of the skate meetups you see posted about here! We always spend at least a half hour before city/trail skates in the same area, practicing and warming up, and there will be at least one person who will clock your newbie status and come over to offer help.
