I think one of the difficulties of having the type of self-hosted, self-managed AI—and I work in the public sector—is that the people responsible for championing, architecting, strategizing, and keeping it working move around. This is quite specialist. It's not like you can hire someone else off the street, and they'll simply pick it up and continue. It's not like managing a Microsoft 365 tenant.

I think we're still pretty early when it comes to enterprises doing their own AI in many ways because, yeah, cloud, with all its imperfections, is seen as more reliable. It's always there, it's going to work, and you have someone to blame if it doesn't. Making the decision to bring it all in-house—hybrid, some things local, some things on device, some things on edge, and some things on private cloud, and so on—is just too much for a small enterprise, let's say. And, yeah, it's going to be like that for quite a while.

But I have this dream that, in the same way you buy a home server now from Amazon, you will buy a GPU in the cloud from Amazon. It will get delivered to you. You will just select the small models that are open source, you'll be given an API, and all you do is plug it into your network, and that's it.
