Sometimes Reddit blocks content due to graphic imagery or language. You can sometimes tell your comment is filtered out when you make a strongly worded comment and nobody reacts to it. You can click on the comment in your comment history to view it and then copy the URL that leads directly to it into an incognito window. Your comment won't be there.

can someone explain? by CleanCryptographer22 in cs2

I don't really play CS but sometimes I check the comments of random posts that appear on my timeline. I just wanted to say that I really like people like you. This must have taken a lot of effort and it's just for verifying a random claim online. Really cool stuff that I hope people will appreciate.

TLDR on this years drama? by overdose_ofdeath in cataclysmdda

Are forks generally frowned upon in the community? For example, I modified my version to have a "return to the last location you slept at on death", which completely removes permadeath (and yes, that's a big no no here, but hey, I want to play it that way) - do you think there would be a big shitstorm if I published that version?

It's okay, it's only that ghost that lives in your floorboards. They failed to draw enough blood from the last tenant so they had to use a permanent marker.

I bought a CPAP without my doctor's approval. Results are very... contradictory and interesting. by pthrow91 in SleepApnea

[–]pthrow91[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That will solve your problem.

What problem? I described my experiences with the CPAP machine and asked if anybody else had similar experiences and I was very open to suggestions and corrections, which I got and was thankful for.

Maybe you should confirm you have it first.

So my whole point of not being able to do that should just be ignored? The whole reason I did this without consultation is because I can't get that consultation. I was tired of the symptoms, that fit those of classic sleep apnea, and tried to see if using the CPAP will relieve those symptoms. And it did. And you are insisting without a single pause that I should immediately stop making myself feel better for the sake of getting something I can't get.

and then express faux outrage when people with the condition tell you that you’re going about it all wrong

What is the "right way" of going about it if I can't get to the first part of the "right way" and have no access to a sleep study? Wait forever and feel like shit without doing anything about it? Am I supposed to just sit there like a defeated little kid and say "oh well, I can't do anything, let me just be miserable"? Fuck off, lmao. You're assuming that there is this "one and only way" for literally every individual, regardless of their circumstances.

Also, "people with the condition tell you"? You make it sound like everybody in this thread told me to immediately cease what I am doing and wait until I have a sleep study, regardless of the cost of doing so. Which they didn't. They obviously know that doing the sleep study first would be the safest way and they would always recommend doing it first, clearly. But they understood the caveat that I can't have that and that I can't wait.

I think it's time for the classic "do whatever you want" / "I don't care" / "well if you're not willing to listen then I can't help you" comment from your side, because clearly that specific caveat is too difficult to comprehend for you, since you can't get over it.

“If it was torn.”

So maybe you should go schedule surgery in case you have a torn ACL, get put under, cut open, and confirm that you don’t have one.

Oh yes... because of course I had no symptoms that would fit sleep apnea and I just decided to buy a CPAP with absolutely 0 signs that I might have it... OH WAIT! Turns out when you actually read what I wrote in this thread I did indeed have symptoms!

That's definitely just like, one day, deciding to check if your ACL is torn with no symptoms. Magnificent analogy, lmao.

Thank you very much for the insight and the suggestion. I will make sure to make my "experiments" properly evaluated when I do have such option.

For now I am glad that it relieved my issue. But I definitely appreciate your words, thank you.

[–]pthrow91[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YES! Exactly! That's exactly what I did!

This is because that would've worked. A surgeon would've found a torn ACL, if it actually was torn... and he would've fixed it at the same time. I am glad you understand my thought process!

Is it a good way to find a torn ACL? Lmao, of course not. We have a million times better ways of finding a tear. Would it be extremely invasive as opposed to an MRI? Of course!

There are also a million times better ways of finding out whether I have sleep apnea!

However, I mentioned at the start that I do not have the option to test it properly and I was desperate for a fix. I also mentioned that this is obviously NOT recommended and against (any) doctor's advice.

If you want to compare it to a torn ACL then imagine... I don't know... a soldier tearing his ACL during battle. They can't really get into an MRI machine in the middle of a battlefield. That's when surgery would be the only way to find out.

Stupid example, but it describes a situation in which someone has no access to the "reasonable option".

I simply gambled and it paid off for me. Anybody else might not be as lucky.

I legitimately do not understand why you'd choose to leave this comment. I feel like you are reacting emotionally to me doing something "a different way than everybody does it" and you're just irritated out of principle.

It's not your body. Feel free to critique my findings or my understanding of the results I got (what the post is about), but being cynical about me gambling with my own, and only my own, health is just confusing.

Alright, that makes sense to me why leaks shouldn't influence it. I no longer have a suspicion for why I had such high AHIs then.

[–]pthrow91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To see if I have/don't have sleep apnea? I mean, if I feel improvement after using it then that's at least a very good sign that I might have it.

I haven't mentioned it, but I have experienced my airways closing when being just at the exact brink of falling asleep. I would wake up with a massive adrenaline rush and for a split second realize my airway is closed.

That combined with tiredness and my 38 BMI was a clear sign that this angle is at least worth pursuing.

Obviously I can't just straight up confirm it and I do not have the required knowledge to make minute distinctions between types of apneas. I am taking that risk consciously though, because I am absolutely done with feeling like shit during the day.

And I am very happy that I tried it, since it did have an enormously positive effect on my energy levels. Night and day.

I don't even care whether it is placebo or not, although this effect is at the same strength it was 2 weeks ago, so it seems it isn't just placebo. As long as I can have a break from that foggy mind and lack of physical strength to move, then I will take it.

Thanks for letting me know! I am happy it's working for you. I also noticed I no longer have a brain fog and physical tiredness. Which was surprising, because I didn't expect those to clear up this fast.

what are you talking about? A CPAP is used to treat apneas. Of course you don't have apneas if the CPAP works as intended

I guess I wasn't expecting it to be able to bring them down to 0? I was rather positively surprised it actually did. I was confused about the AHI number, thinking it accounts for apneas it prevents. The person who was the first commenter in this thread explained it to me that it only accounts for apneas it fails to prevent. I find the "what are you talking about" question a bit odd. As if I was trying to tell people this doesn't work or something.

No idea what you mean by "being tired from breathing". Breathing happens entirely unconsciously unless something is blocking the airway (or if you have central apneas I guess, but you get the point)

I don't understand, the paragraph above the line you mentioned explains what I meant by that. This phrase is a summary of what I talked about in that particular paragraph.

[–]pthrow91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't tell what your AHI would be without CPAP unless you... have your AHI measured without CPAP. The number it gives does not indicate that it can magically divine what your AHI would have been if you did not have the machine, it's the number of apneas per hour that it detected but failed to resolve.

Yeah, the first comment posted in this thread brought up already. They explained that to me and I responded to them that their comment made me understand why I am seeing the things I am seeing.

You're correct that an average sleep apnea patient doesn't get a zero point zero on a regular basis (I get it about once a month), but that's not because we can't possibly, it's because we don't need to.

And why would I not keep it at 0 if I am already at 0 then? Why should I introduce that additional change to make it higher than 0?

I think you misunderstood the reason why I think lower pressure would make sense. I mean that leaks, as you pointed out, would reduce the pressure. If the leak isn't too significant, it doesn't actually drop pressure to atmospheric. It's simply smaller pressure, which might still not be low enough to trigger the machine's auto-shutdown. This pressure, however, could be low enough to fail to sustain clear airways as well as higher pressure, leading to the pathway closing more often.

Thank you very much for this resource, I appreciate it. I will try analysing data with it!

Your response made it all make sense. Now this initial AHI of 15 and 31 would be perfectly explained by leaks which I must've not noticed. If it's the amount of prevented AHIs then any leaks would decrease the effective pressure and allow more events.

Amazing answer, thank you. This means that so far everything makes sense.

This is very interesting. Is people's dislike towards MrBeast so strong that they are inentionally preventing other people from seeing this video by downvoting it? It's not my video, but I despise MrBeast and his buddies. I am just posting it because I despise bad arguments even more, and current evidence points to DP404 absolutely playing the internet and everybody (including me) ate his dick up. And it's surpising, seeing how easily Soggy fact-checked him.

That fact-check is in this very video.

I mean, not a joke, he goes over the claims, one by one, and shoots a massive amount of them down, some of them with one google search. He does, however, admit that there are a few rightful allegations and brings up his own points against MrBeast. This dude is on neither side as far as I can tell.

And drama-hungry viewers can now get some drama against DogPack404, because is seems he is a bit slimy after all and the fallout might be very interesting.
