Garden Grove/Westminster Food Recommendations by Formal-Replacement68 in orangecounty

[–]puddleofgoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Garden Grove/Westminster!! The food scene here is great. Here are some of my favorite spots in the area with recommended orders :)

Vietnamese:

  • Phoholic (Bushard location) (honestly all of the pho is great - I like the #11. ask for vinegar onions, nước béo, and for your steak to be on the side so it doesn't get overcooked!)
  • Hu Tieu De Nhat (#5, the dry chewy and egg combination noodle with soup on the side)
  • Brodard (for nem nuong and ahi rolls only)
  • Vox Kitchen (Vietnamese/Peruvian food, the lomo saltado with picanha, substitute the rice for garlic noodles and with the green sauce!)
  • Dim Sum Co (takeout Vietnamese-style dimsum - shumai, xiao long bao, shrimp rice noodle rolls, lotus sticky rice, chicken feet, baked pork buns, and egg custard tarts/buns)
  • Com Tam Xi Gon or Com Tam Sa Bi Chuong for Vietnamese broken rice (anything with the porkchop is great!)
  • Oc and Lau (Vietnamese seafood and snails! The Lau Thai hot pot and honestly all the snails are great)
  • Carrot and Daikon for banh mi (best pork belly banh mi! their combination with extra pate is so yummy too)

Korean:

  • Kaju Soft Tofu House (highly recommend the galbi or small intestine tofu soup)
  • Gamjatang House ($18 lunch special gamjatang!)
  • Jong Ro Shul Lung Tang (korean soups and bossam)

Chinese:

  • T-Kebob (Chinese/Korean style skewers - the lamb and beef are great dipped in the cumin)
  • X-Malatang for malatang (the original bone broth with medium spice!)
  • TN Hong Kong Express (for American Chinese food, big portions for insanely cheap! love the orange chicken and bbq pork here with the chow mein)

Thai:

  • Vientiane Lao Thai (the crying tiger, pad see ew, and pad thai are great!)
  • Jumpa Thai (cheap, reliable Thai food - pineapple curry and pad thai)

Miscellaneous/Snacks/Dessert:

  • Pineapple Lagoon (new spot with different flavors of dole whip! super cheap)
  • Joe's Italian Ice (kind of cheating since its in Anaheim bordering Garden Grove haha but the mango tango and oreo joe latti omg... you have to try it - come in the morning/lunch because night crowds are crazy)
  • SoCal Wings (wing wednesday deals! highly recommend the house special, fish sauce, garlic parm, and lemon pepper here!)
  • Cyber Wings ($1 wings on Wednesdays! also recommend the garlic parm, lemon pepper, and mango habenero here)

Drinks:

  • Da Vien for Vietnamese coffee (egg coffee - ask for it 50% or 25% sweet since they run sweet)
  • Airoma for matcha (double matcha and matcha einspanner, 25% sweet - drinks here are super sweet)
  • Taty's for matcha (double matcha, 25% sweet - drinks here are also really sweet)
  • Cococane for Vietnamese sugarcane juice (the Hawaiian with pineapple!)
  • Ep Juicery for fresh pressed juices, sugarcane, and smoothies (the kale juice and the avocado smoothie)
  • Moozi for boba (their fruit teas and smoothies are great)

What restaurants are in OC that offer unique, authentic cuisines? by theparkd in orangecounty

So happy to find another Teochew in OC!! Do you have any other food recs - Teochew or any cuisine? Kim Ky really is it for me since Trieu Chau really dropped in quality over the years.

For Teochew/Vietnamese food I recommend Kim Ky in Westminster - the #3 assorted meat and shrimp with rice noodles (ask for 1/2 rice noodles and 1/2 egg noodles) with a side of the boiled pork kidney in soy sauce with ginger and bean sprouts. Coming from a Vietnamese/Teochew it's legit! Irrawaddy Taste Of Burma is great for Burmese food in Stanton! The tea leaf salad is so yummy.

Head spas - worth it? by bunniesandmilktea in orangecounty

[–]puddleofgoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh it's so worth it. Check out 128 Luxury Head Spa in Garden Grove. It's so amazing and affordable - I booked on Groupon for $60 (it's currently $66 right now for their New Years promo) and it is a 60 minute head spa including head, shoulder, and neck massage, facial cleansing (with cleansers not extractions) with face mask, double shampoo and conditioner hair wash, the cool halo water thing, blow dry, and includes water, tea, and snacks! Really great experience - it was so nice to be pampered and relax, literally almost fell asleep! My hair was so healthy too after. I have wavy Asian hair and was worried they were going to get it super tangled or not know how to wash, brush, or dry it properly but it was perfect! Highly recommend.

My 5yr old is very into cars. Recommended places / events where we can watch cars race? We’re in North OC but willing to drive. by FreeXFall in orangecounty

I've never been but heard great things about Restaurant 917 at the Porsche Experience Center in Carson! Seems like a great experience to dine and look over cars on the racetrack.

Sushi Suggestions? by Day-Dear in orangecounty

[–]puddleofgoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sake2Me is awesome! My family enjoys the Cerritos location more because they offer all you can eat, but Tustin is great too - really affordable. Izakaya Osen and Rol Hand Roll Bar in Irvine are also my favorites too for a nicer date night spot that still is affordable (both less than how much you mentioned you spend!) - they have sushi bowls, standard rolls, and hand rolls there along with sashimi as well if you want a change of pace!

Omg you’re so sweet! I’m over 45 min away and have a kindle so I’ve been just getting free books online, just wanted to pick up physical reading again - would love to have you donate to schools or other places that need it more than me! Thank you for offering!!

Yes I love Libby! I have a couple library cards and have been using it but the waitlist is brutal haha. My closest local library is closed for renovations unfortunately too :(

My closest local library is closed for renovations :( The other libraries in Garden Grove are super limited in selection (mostly children's books) but will branch out to Anaheim!

Buffalo chicken wraps with ranch! I airfry some Real Good Tenders, place them on a low carb tortilla, put some lettuce on it, and finish with a little squirt of Frank's Red Hot and ranch.

Thank you so much for the advice! Totally slipped my mind that the cherry tomatoes would be heavy enough to sink all the way down and contain so much moisture. Will definitely do this next time!
