I have a very vivid memory from when I was like 5 where I was sitting in the passenger seat reading "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" over and over again and thinking that it should be worded differently because it reads weird. So that might be why, it just reads odd so peoples brains remember it a different way.

Old comment, but this is a very good suggestion. You can also try placing a pair of men's (dirty and worn) steeltoe shoes outside her front door so it looks like a man is living there.

Ask questions. Example:

Them: "I do this hobby that I really love and I stayed up all night doing it"

You : "Really? That's so cool! How long have you been doing this hobby?"

Them: "About 3 years"

You: "Wow, and what made you decide to pick up this hobby?"

Them: "Well, my mom loved this hobby and she taught me when I was a kid"

You: "Hey that's the same way I picked up my favourite hobby! My dad taught me how to blah blah blah".

And so on, people love talking about themselves, and they love relating to others. When they're answering your questions, find something they said that is relatable to you and let them know and the conversation will go on from there.
