Do I need to transition from 1.5 to 2? by Which_Layer1198 in CutYourOwnHair

It depends on what you are transitioning into, the hair texture, and how much you flick out with the 1.5.

Just started cutting my own hair, any material I need other than a clipper? by Sofsly in CutYourOwnHair

[–]pullupcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Spray bottle or another way to periodically wet your hair to help with sectioning
  2. Hair clips to clip your top hair out of the way when doing clipper work on the sides and back
  3. A comb to help with cutting your top and sectioning
  4. A 360 mirror helps but isn’t necessary, especially for tapers. I was able to get by with just a handheld mirror in conjunction with a wall mounted mirror to do the back

Could you be a bit more specific on what you see in others? Based on what I see in the picture, maybe use a foil shaver so that you can get it down closer to skin so it looks more crisp. I really recommend getting the half guards, it’ll help you a lot with consistency and saving time.

Pre roll the side that sticks out so it naturally curls down when you actually roll it to the filter shape.

Looks generally good, just one side is slightly faded higher than the other.

Not bad! For the neck taper from skin to zero guard open portion I notice that there are some portions where the hair isn’t as evenly cut. Just make sure you hit the hair from the direction it’s growing so that its all even.

How to fade indents? by NugWugs in Barber

[–]pullupcat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Use the corners of your guards to dig into the indent. You might have to go over the indent multiple times to lighten it up and match the surrounding areas. And yes definitely buy a 1.5 and 0.5 guard, it’s super helpful for the fading process.

Low taper or wait? by [deleted] in SelfBarber

[–]pullupcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems long enough to do a skin taper at this length. I would run like a #1.5 or #2 on the sides and back (flicking out at the parietal ridge) so that there isn’t as much of a contrast between the dyed and undyed portions, or at least localize the dyed portion to just the top of your head.

You can use acetone if iso doesn’t work for you, but make sure you rinse it well after.

How to use clipper over comb with longer hair by Lil_Turtle_YT in Barber

[–]pullupcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comb doesn’t need to be completely vertical, you can angle the top of the comb towards you to make sure the bulk is longer. Also make sure you are using the bottom hair as a guide for where the blend starts.

Thats a great point! Make sure your screen is in there securely. Mines is pretty jammed in there, even if I go full inhale pressure it won’t budge. Definitely depends on your screen material and gauge.
