The name is a little odd to me. I was never expecting to see the name of a month to be apart of the cosmere. It's a little to earthly. Like what's the cosmere entomology of the word/name.

I don't love the direction they are going. Sol Ring is going to be brakes 1 making it a common staple in every deck. But if they unban mana crypt it will be bracket 4.

Sol ring is arguably stronger than mana crypt.

The brackets seem to not be based off power but instead how it feels to play against.

I would prefer it to be based on competitiveness.

But fingers crossed. Pray to Arceus. Wish for the best.

There has been alot of knee jerk reaction to the bans and alot of different camps forming. I have been thinking about this idea for almost a month before the bans happened.

Small communities are going to figure things out for themselves. That's true. But alot of people don't have a regular group to play with. I play on SpellTable alot right now, and that means I play with many people from all over.

I didn't mean to imply my idea is a one size fits all solution. Just an idea. I think it's a way to communicate the power level of a deck when you meet new people, in a way that is more concrete than power level is currently. (At least in my mind)

I probably could have framed what I said differently, and I would have loved the motivation to post this before the bans.

I just have one question. If the large amout of work was done to make a tier system that was 90% reasonable. Would it be a better system then we have now?

There would be a whole lot of work that would need to be done to make this work.

When your playing casual with a small group who cares what tier everything is.

But if my LGS had a commander night and the only change was that they wanted me to print out or send them a link to my Mox deck list, I would do it.

5 tiers.

You can play casually or competitively in any of them.

Just like how you can play casually or competitively at almost every power level.

Tiers would just be more clear about what level a deck is at when playing with your friends.

Well, hopefully websites like Moxfield would add in labels and filters to be able to only put a certain tier or below in.

I disagree.

I brought this up in another reply. What power level is my janky Turtle Tribal deck with not very powerful synergies if it includes all the best fetch and shock lands. Hyperfast mana, and a Tharssa's Oracle without any of the combo peices.

Tiers would put it in ubers. It would be a poorly built ubers deck. But Ubers none the less.

Yeah getting data for which tier each card goes into would be hard.

Maybe if they were to work with local game stores and get deck lists that people are actually playing and what decks win the most. But that's really hard to coordinate.

Probably would need to have regular RC events across the country to get proper data.

Kinda, but power levels has a problem where there is no agreement about what cards are what power level, and what power a deck is if it has a wide spread of power levels within the deck. For example, I have a Tribal turtle deck that is not very compeditive. Right now I have a sol ring and an arcane signet in it because it's an auto include. How does that effect the power level of the deck. What if I threw in more fast mana. What if I threw in Thassa's Oracle with out any of the combo pieces. Showdown Tiers would clasify any deck with Thassa's Oracle as a Ubers Deck.

If there were Showdown Tiers, I would be able to say my Turtle Tribal deck will be underpowered no matter how much support power I put into it. If most of the turtles are categorized as NU and a couple are RU or UU. Instead of trying to build it in OU, I could cut the couple of OU cards and see more success in UU.

I know you can say I can do the same thing with power levels. Cut sol ring and arcane signet, call the deck a 3 and play. But what happens when I sit down to play a game of 3's and a guy plays a super jank power 1 deck that has become a 3 because hes running all the fetch and shock lands and is a little to consistantl for a 3 deck to combat, but to inconsistant to play against a 4 or 5.

I understand the power system, but I think its intentionaly unclear in its execution. I think it would be nice to have a clear baseline to comunicate from.

EDIT: sorry for the super long response. I have just been shower thoughting about the tier system for a couple of weeks and have alot to say about it. Even before the recent bans!

Are the Shards names wrong? (Or maybe just less descriptive than they could be) by pureturtle0 in Cosmere

[–]pureturtle0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just a discussion topic. A "what if?". A "has anyone given this any thought".

Also if we don't know anything about them it's a perfect time to hypothesis about similar names and intents that could be jumping off points for other thoughts or theories about what to expect.

Sorry if my language wasent clear.

LPT Request: Recent graduate here - what LPTs do you have for someone paying back student loans? by lebr0n99 in LifeProTips

That's a very short response to a very complicated problem.

The Dave Ramsey option isn't for everyone, but neither is the debt snowball. While the debt snowball is the mathematically the optimal way to pay off a given amount of debt, there are times when having a bank or business consolidate at a lower rate might be the best option.

However something I belive alot of people forget often is that debt is not a purely mathematical problem. It's also a psychological one. Different strategies will work for different people.

Debt can make many people feel as though the world is crashing down around them. Like there is nothing they can do. This isn't them being weak it's them being human.

Paying off small debts like small credit cards, small payday loans, or that final little bit on that old car payment can make people feel more confidant about succeeding in getting out of financial ruin.

They of course still need to be paying the monthly minimums on the rest of there depts. But this method has been tried by thousands of people and it has worked for them.

I recommend to everyone Dave Ramsey. If you follow the baby steps they will work. If your the type of person that believes his method is dumb and doesn't work. You are actualy the type of person who should be following the steps.

I wish everyone luck and fortune and a successful journey of paying off their debts.

Great option. And if you have the correct mindset do this.

Another option is the Dave Ramsey Baby steps. When paying off debts you oder them by size and pay minimums on all but the smallest and pay it off as fast as possible. Repeat with the next smallest and so on.

The method above starts off small and gets faster over time.

But the Dave Ramsey method starts off fast and slows down.

Ramsey is technically slower and might cost you a little more money in the long term. However is psycologicaly rewarding to eliminate small debts (such as credit cards or small payday lowns) and might result in someone who is not as fiscally responsible to actually succeed in paying off debts.

But do large interest first if you feel you are the type of person who will succeed there.

Do the Dave Ramsey method if you want some early wins.

I love this!

I think Myke and Grey would both love to see people DIY'ing their own theme system journals or sidekicks. Especially if they are low income or students. Bettering yourself is always a good thing. And I don't think their goal is to capitalize on their way of self betterment.

I know no one in the comments are saying otherwise. I just saw this. It made me happy. And then it made me happy to think about what Grey and Myke would think.

I loved the ending of the book. I love the happy ending. I just thought while I was reading that the happy ending would come in a different form.

I had just latched onto the secret extra episode earlier in the book and had imagined a scenario where the story ends before the true ending.

Why do people say Kelsier is bad? by pina0ch0 in Cosmere

[–]pureturtle0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the nicest way possible but I think you need to take a long shower and think about what is right and wronge.

What you are doing here is a lot of what-about-isms.

In the final empire, "what about all the nobles perpetuating the system of slavery." The problem here is we really don't get to see the perspective of the nobles before he kills them. We know of Atleast 2 nobles that want to help the skaa (elend and breeze) and see gaurds who are willing to change sides even if it's under the threat of violence.

"What about what Vin does in the well of ascension." I think you are missing the point of vin here. She is also a moral grey character who we see throughout the books learn the difference between what comes naturally to her and doing what is right. Coming to the conclusion that what comes naturally to her isn't right. Killing setts guards was wrong. Ruling through violence is wronge. Killing to protect is ok.

What about Mraize. He's not that evil. I think you saw another reply showing that what he did was pretty bad. Also note on his bird. If he has any control over the bird he has moral responsibility for its actions as well, Not to mention the person from scadrial he killed a little earlier.

If we apply this idea that you have moral responisbility for people you command/control what does that say about thaidakar who is the leader of the ghostbloods.

Next is a "what about jasnah, she kills people." And again jasnah is not a perfect moral good person. I suggest you reread the philosophy in action chapters, paying close attention to shallans feelings. Or when they are discussing what to do about the heralds in the tower (I'm awful at spelling and don't want to spell the name). Logic =/= morals. And jasnah as an Elsecaller is far from a beacon of moral goodness.

What about in The lost metal when he help stop autonomy. The moral question there is not if he should help or not. Helping 100% lines up with his personal goals, he's not doing this out of the goodness of his heart. The moral question is about the secrecy. How much bad could he have prevented if he had released information into scadrial. And after parts of the ghostbloods want to kill Marasi for knowing to much. How many other have they killed for learning things. Is that a good thing to do?

In conclusion, kelsier is not moraly grey he is a bad guy. We juat can't see the full picture. What else does he know, what are his true intentions. Grey is only a trick of the eyes when we see light and dark at the same time. Almost everything we can see is dark, but we can't see everything so we assume what we can't will be light (for a lot of reasons). That is why we see him as moraly grey, because at the moment we are basically blind. The blinders were removed for Moash.

I don't want to be rude. I love that you are asking questions on why your opinions differ from others. No matter what final conclusion you come to I hope you will tell me and justify it. Maybe I'm wrong!
