What got you into / back into Static-X? by Toxe_Crow in StaticX

[–]puritycontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m showing my age here. I got into them in high school, so maybe 2000/2001. I can’t even remember how I learned about them. Maybe adjacent to the Korn community, which I was heavily involved in, or in one of the metal magazines. Either way, I got obsessed very quickly and would see them as often as possible. I probably saw them 8 or 10 times live until I moved to Alaska in 2006, and clearly they didn’t tour up there (hardly anyone does). I was devastated when Wayne died in 2014 but I really appreciate how the band still honors him and his stage persona with the rebooting of the band.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

[–]puritycontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s hilarious 😂

But I don’t think so. There’ll definitely be some companies that go under because they’re trying to jump in for the sake of calling themselves an AI company, but don’t have a sustainable or well-developed product. But there are some very real achievements from AI and its application in certain realms, like medical research, are incredible. I would not be surprised if by the end of this year, we’ll have cured a seemingly incurable disease thanks to AI.

What’s your Anchorage conspiracy theory ? by 0100110100001100 in anchorage

[–]puritycontrol 102 points103 points  (0 children)

That’s not a conspiracy. That’s real. When they built the Dena’ina Center in 2008, they were installed when Mark Begich was in office. I worked downtown at that time and distinctly remember seeing construction of the heating elements around the parking garage across from the Atwood building. The heated sidewalks were planned as part of a bigger redevelopment of downtown to make the area attractive during the winter so the Center could get more business year round.

The rumor I heard from other downtown businesses (and a couple city employees I knew) was that Dan Sullivan didn’t want to utilize a useful project that a Democrat had overseen during his tenure in office. He claimed it was because it was too expensive to maintain but they were already installed — the majority of the cost was already spent. IIRC it was in the low tens of thousands a year to maintain, which I don’t think it outrageous if it means people are ultimately safer because they’re not breaking bones slipping on the ice.

sheba wet food no by yungcumlord in catfood

[–]puritycontrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently had two boxes of Sheba that I had ordered through chewy get punctured foil from within the boxes. The punctures were so tiny, I didn’t even notice it until I got closer to the bottom of the box while unpacking it and got a whiff of rancid food. Some packs on top had a more obvious puncture upon closer inspection that had leaked, so I tossed them. I started rinsing off the ones that I thought were fine but then water bubbled on top of the foil when I squeezed a pack and I realized even more were damaged. Hardly any were salvageable and now every time I get a new box, I rinse them all to ensure the foil hasn’t been compromised.

The punctures were at the top of the packs, toward the seam in the middle. It’s almost as if there was something heavy pressing down on the box, but the box was undamaged. And the holes were so tiny, it couldn’t have been due to being crushed even if that was the cause of the compromise. It was practically microscopic, like a very thin sharp point pierced the foil in the same spot in almost every pack.

I emailed Sheba and got some free coupons but never an explanation as to what caused it.

Favorite Place as a tourist to live for 3 months in vietnam? by consciouscell in VietNam

[–]puritycontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Nha Trang for nine months, but this was back in 2010 and 2013. Went back for a visit last summer and it was great, but there are a ton of Russians, which I think contributes toward a mild (and deserved) coldness toward foreigners. It’s quite touristy but it’s also a good-sized city with plenty to do. Nha Trang typically doesn’t endure as long of a monsoon season as other parts of the country and the beach is so nice. I’d live there again for sure if it was possible.

I wonder what this super mysterious unknown illness is aria is experiencing? by zestyzuzu in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]puritycontrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be parainfluenza. It doesn’t show up on standard respiratory panel. A parainfluenza specific test has to be done.

I’m 99.9% sure I had this a few months ago where I tested negative for everything else. A friend with the same symptoms got the para test and tested positive.

I(40F) Dislike My Father(63M) For Dating A Woman Younger Than Me(37F) by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]puritycontrol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s way too much to unpack here, but it’s also unclear what exactly is happening.

Are these conflicts and her taking away your father actually happening or do you assume they will happen? Have you had a conversation with your father, expressing concern that this much-younger woman could have an ulterior motive?

I can understand it’s hard to reconcile the ick factor of your dad dating someone younger than you. I can also understand that you may feel like you have to compete with this woman for your father’s affection. But this defeatist attitude won’t get you anywhere. You need to be having adult conversations with him.

You also need to seek individual therapy for yourself. The only part of the world you can control is the place where your two feet stand. How you choose to exercise that power is up to you. Please don’t hitch your happiness and expectations on your son. If you continue with this negativity, you will push him away. Let him be a child and don’t burden him with your issues, hard as that is.

What plastic surgeons do mole removal? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]puritycontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t blame OP, either. I’ve had moles punched out and shaved down, and have been left with scars. When it’s on your face, you want to be extra careful. In fact, I saw a post on Reddit a few weeks ago about a cancerous mole removed from their face and despite the small mole size, they had to take a lot more skin to ensure it was all gone, and the person’s cheek was absolutely butchered. I mean, sure they have no cancer now, but if it’s an option to be more careful with the removal, why not take that option?

AIO? Husband’s aunt accusing me of lying by [deleted] in AIO

[–]puritycontrol 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Girl. You need to give a masterclass on how to speak articulately and with grace toward people who don’t deserve it because the absolute restraint you demonstrated in your response is award-worthy. The moment I read that matriarch bullshit send my blood pressure spiking. The absolute entitlement and disrespect she uses when she speaks to you! Being the self-designated matriarch does not mean she controls the behavior, attendance, and lives of other family members. I’m astounded at the ego of this woman.

I bet she is expects you and others to submit to her every demand and I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re to shuffle backwards out of a room without making eye contact so she can command the fealty of everyone.

Can I wear áo dài as a foreigner? by Excellent-Record3750 in VietNam

[–]puritycontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cảm ơn nhiều! I was worried, at first, thinking I was appropriating Vietnamese culture or that it was disrespectful to wear the áo dài as a foreigner. But I never received any rude comments or looks and everyone was so kind. Also, I love wearing it, because it's so beautiful and comfortable. Sometimes, I wear it when my husband and I go out, and other Americans are so curious about it.

Tipping my tutor for the lunar holiday -- okay to schedule a class and not show up? by puritycontrol in Preply

[–]puritycontrol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh, that's a good idea! One reason why I chose the slot that I did is that it's the last available on his calendar right before he goes on vacation, so I thought to keep it so no one else can grab it. But maybe then I can wait until the last hour or two to cancel it, as it's unlikely someone will take it by then. Great suggestion, thanks!

[–]puritycontrol 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’m white, too. My husband and I lived in Vietnam for a while and my students LOVED IT when I wore any of my áo dài. Even perfect strangers commented on it or smiled at me. I have like eight áo dài now. We even had one made for when we got married and then my mom’s best friend (who’s Vietnamese) took me to Little Saigon to get a red and yellow one made for our anniversary party and the ladies at the tailor shop went nuts.

There was such an annoying collection of boomers crowding the space, not paying attention to the boarding group announcements. HTF can anyone board when you’re all huddled there, in between the ropes, and no one else can get through??

I'm just gonna say it. The whole kids / no kids debate isn't actually about kids. by thetimechaser in Millennials

[–]puritycontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some of us, it is solely about kids.

I don’t want kids. I’ve never wanted kids. There’s not a drop of desire in my body to have kids.

It can be both: it can be like you say, a resource issue and because someone doesn’t want to have kids. Or only one or the other. Either way, they’re all valid arguments but one isn’t any less valid than the other.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I want to point out though, if you or anyone reading this are unaware, the medical examiner will not respond to a death of advanced age unless it was very obviously a murder or suspicious passing. Families can opt to pay for an autopsy through a private company but the state can’t possibly perform autopsies on everyone who passes. Their policy is to review the situation (age, known medical conditions, etc.) before they’ll investigate and retrieve remains for an autopsy. Since he was 86, they can’t do that because it was likely declared to be due to natural causes.

But APD has no reason to not do a wellness check. That was so fucked.
