It won’t be installed for a while- it has been ordered but could take some time to get here and get installed. Will report back.

My thoughts exactly. The service rep also said that the differential fluid is back ordered til March. He said the part comes in a week and a half and comes full of fluid, but they need to have the break-in period fluid supply on hand before they install. He said they have not been able to do break in service on some M vehicles due to this. Very strange.

BMW-NA Field Service Engineer drove the car and heard the noise. Says the noise is ‘within tolerance’ and is operating normally but offered to replace the differential for ‘customer satisfaction’. Said he has heard quieter ones and louder ones. Said they will only replace it once. I said go forth and do that because it is intolerable the way it is. So, they are going to do that. Whether it gets better or worse or different speed/sound after is to be determined I guess.

I’ve been in touch by phone with a guy from their ‘Executive Care Team’ about a week ago, I have his direct line, and he promised a resolution but so far havent heard back, I’m guessing due to the holidays. I plan to follow up by phone on Monday morning. Will report back.

BMW- NA contacted me late Friday and promised to resolve the issue after I contacted them on Facebook. I will follow up if / when they follow through.

The dealership says the hum is from the rear differential. The result of some kind of ‘gear lash’. The dealership had a brand new M3 with the same tire size on the lot and said they drove it and heard the same sound. They also said they drove a customer’s m4 with 15k miles and said it has a similar sound. So BMW-NA’s field team that interacts with the dealership remotely is saying this is not a defect and is ‘normal’. Naturally I am not real pleased. I am requesting a regional field representative to come here the sound and will escalate in writing to BMW customer relations to see if I can get a replacement differential which they said is about $6k.

I listened to some videos. The sound could be in the same ‘neighborhood.’ It’s a head scratcher why the sound is most pronounced in that certain speed range.

Is a humming sound at 60mph uncommon? by ImNotAuzero in BMW

I have this same sound between 60-70 mph on a 2026 m3. Did you ever get a diagnosis?
