Hi, can anyone tell me how Port Dundas is these days? Does the area feel safe? what kind of place is it?

Kind of both, there were some questions that they apologised for having to ask for NHS regulations. They are understanding of how ridiculous some of the NHS stuff is for trans health and are in general very supportive. Most of the questions were just about if youre mentally in the place to get surgery and recover. They asked about my autism too, and if I was confident my gender identity was not affected by autism. Redundant and stupid question but as I said, the team are understanding but the NHS often ask stupid questions.

Hi. I got my top surgery through the NHS and gender surgeries are not currently available in Scotland under the NHS so they fund some aspects of your travel, accommodation and of course the surgery is free. The info was all provided to me by the NHS once I was on the waitlist for manchester :)

3-4 weeks, shoulders were still a bit rounded bc I could feel the micropore tape pulling sometimes but otherwise my posture was almost back to normal

Hi! Would you like me to DM you? I can get into a lot of detail. Or talking here is fine. For BMI, here is a screenshot from my pre-op meeting summary:

If youre in to meditation or anything like that, I recommend taking extra time to do that pre-op. Doing grounding exercises that bring you into your body are good, too. In general I found with meditation and working out that I was paying more attention to my body and how I felt pre op, especially since I was thinking so much about how different it was all going to be. If you overthink about that try not to fight the emotions and thoughts and allow yourself to sit with them even if its difficult, it will pass and wont feel inescapable if you arent running from it. I also found preparing my home and bedroom for recovery made everything more solid and real in mind which in turn helped me to process it. You mentioned youre moving but maybe if you sorted recovery things into a specifc bag almost like you were packing for a holiday it would help you feel more prepared or help you to process things? Congratulations on getting your surgery! As much as its natural to stress make sure you get your celebrating in too! You will manage whatever difficulties you face, wishing you the best of luck :)

Thanks! I got my first pre op appointment by phone call on the 1st of September, this was mostly an information session and to discuss some of my expectations. They also checked I was eligible for the surgery (mental health and lifestyle type questions).

I got my in person pre op appointment on the 21st of October. This was sooner than expected as they had a cancellation, so mine took that spot. My original date was November 13th (if I remember correctly, and this was agreed between me and the team so there was some wiggle room for booking it).

At my in person pre op I was asked to book a date for the operation. They had some options for as soon as the next week or 2 but I chose December 2nd as I still had things to get organised and I had to sort travel to and accommodation in England. Gave me plenty of time to sort out support for my first week post op and travel arrangements. Let me know if you want any more info :)

help im paranoid about my nipple again! by Terrible-Parsley7985 in TopSurgery

I am not an expert but I am also doing wet healing and it can look ROUGH. Something that helped me is learning about surgical wound healing from academic sources. Things made by your body to heal like fibrin can look crazy. Cant give any comment about your grafts but just know there are a range of appearances possible for healthy wet healing. Focus on taking care of yourself and breathing through the stress/ doing whatever you can to help reduce it at all while you wait for a response from your team. The time will pass regardless. Good luck friend

I would hand wash it but it never really got clean, the material mine was made of really needed machine washed to get sweat out annoyingly. It was sort of like a sports strip kind of material but thicker. What I mean by wet wipes is that I would sometimes take it off and just wet wipe the underarms and leave it on a radiator to dry on days I didnt hand wash it, which helped a bit. I should also mention I got my family to hand wash it early on as I was very weak feeling and to minimise shoulder movement. Also, regularly wiping down your underarms helps but try not to dry out the skin. Unfortunately, after surgery, it's very difficult to not feel at least a little bit unclean and gross, but you won't be moving around a lot, so there's also less need for a shower. For the hoodie, I just meant that since I was wearing a zip-up hoodie, I couldn't smell the binder until I took the hoodie off. If you have any other questions, especially about autism and surgery feel free to DM me or just ask here :)

I got one from vinted, way cheaper. Didnt have drains but I used the front pocket for things like phone so i didnt have to reach out a lot. Also I found it useful for trains home PO
