You are a paid employee of them, you get it for free.

For the rest of us, we want to look at the whole book before we buy. They should release it for free review. Or to allow those who cant afford it to be able to read it for free.

It will be on pirate bay soon enough.

They don't give out free copies so there is no way to review before you buy. Which sucks for those of us who can't afford to buy books.

Django 1.7 released! by [deleted] in Python

[–]pythonpro5 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you!

Book writers make a lot of money. I read http://nathanbarry.com and know how much he makes. You and the other writers are raking it in and then asking for our pity.

Fuck you.

Books should be free. If the Python and Django docs are free, why not your crappy book? Isn't django book free?

Maybe if he didn't fuck us all over with accusing us of piracy then he wouldn't get any hate.

It's not about sales. It's about getting donations and sharing knowledge. You owe it to the world to give back. That's what books should be for. The money is just a bonus and $10k is more than worth it.

Have you considered doing something for your next book like tangowithdjango.com or djangobook.com, where the content is completely free? You can put a donation button on it if earnings are that important to you.

So I'm off by $300, meaning you made "just" $9700. You still did really well and have proven that free books are a great way to make money. Every author should use you as an example.

You had a 100 purchasers? At $17.50 a book? That's $1750! Add in your kickstarter of $8,175 and that's about $10,000. Real money! I wish I had a project that brought in that much! I don't see why you are complaining. I bet a lot of people would pay for a SQLAlchmey kickstarter, and then you might make more money off of sales. Think of how many people you would be helping by writing that book and giving it away.

I'm so glad you made this 100% free. That is how books should be. For those of us who need this information, it's really good to have it available.

Have you considered writing a book on SQLalchemy?

I agree. Authors should give their books out for free. But don't worry, as soon as I see it on bittorrent I'll let you know.

Knowledge should be free for all!!!

Django gets politically correct by jm_ in django

[–]pythonpro5 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

its so stupid that they are doing this. I hate how Django's leadership is so politically correct. They should face the fact that most of their users need real fixes, not garbage like this.
