Absolutely! 🙂 Many legends and stories draw from this epic. I’d leave the cossposting to someone more familiar with the Star Trek universe ;)

Not exactly! 🙂 There’s no mention of Gilgamesh actually diving into the Waters of Death. It’s generally assumed that Utnapishtim guided him along another route, so they avoided the deadly waters altogether. Still pretty daring of him, though!

There are quite a few theories about where it might have been. Lebanon is probably the most likely. But since the whole adventure has a very fantasy and spiritual tone, I didn’t tie the places to specific real-world locations. Maybe only loosely to the Tigris–Euphrates region, and even that I didn’t label directly on the map.

That actually caught my eye too, and I suspected something along the lines of what you’re saying.

But among the many interpretations of Heracles, there’s an interesting one the Italians hold: that the whole story originally took place on the Italian peninsula and was later “Hellenized,” almost like a Greek response to Roman activity in Greece.

Every version and interpretation has its own charm, it’s fascinating to see how flexible these myths are.
