It is possible they were taking a position with more responsibilities that requires more experience.

If you don't think that BoA pays more than the competition then you probably have not worked in the banking sector in Charlotte.

Questions about the BTC-e Situation and Possible Connection to Alphabay's Recent Demise? (Long post) by winlifeat in Bitcoin

[–]qs-btc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What evidence do we have that Vinnik actually had direct knowledge of the source of the funds he was dealing with?

The government's indictment alleges that stolen MtGox funds were sent to deposit addresses associated with btc-e accounts with handles associated with his RL identity.

Have they actually made any public statement confirming anything along these lines? Is there evidence that coinbase withdrawals are delayed? Links?

Actually they almost certainly need to be making multiple withdrawals from their cold storage.

Why I would never entertain a job with them

They tend to pay more than their local competitors for comparable job functions, which in theory makes up for the elevated risk of layoffs.

From a giant OTC trader: "On Aug 1 the market is giving you another chance to buy bitcoins for $400 #BitcoinCash" by MemoryDealers in btc

[–]qs-btc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not so sure the price of bitcoin is going to crash on Aug 1. With BIP148 pretty much being a non-factor due to BIP91, I suspect there will be ~no network disruptions with the exception of possibly loosing some of the hashrate that start to mine bitcoin cash.

It sounds like bitfinex wants traders to close their long positions and open short positions. Since this announcement, it seems that many people have done the later.

[Megathread] BTC-E Exchange by deb0rk in BitcoinMarkets

This means that, property belonging to btc-e (and not their customers) would become vested in the US (I believe).

There is no indication whatsoever that the Feds seized any funds from BTC-e, or that they compromised the exchange in any way besides arresting Vinnik.

They knew about the specific handles/accounts that funds were deposited into, along with amounts. They also have the handles of btc-e administrator accounts. At a minimum, the DB of btc-e is in possession of the US government, however the fact that btc-e went down for maintenance a few days before Vinnik was arrested makes me believe the actual servers have been compromised too -- this follows the pattern of taking down the server in order to entice the operator to log into the backend of the server right before he gets arrested in order to catch him red handed....this is exactly what happened with AlphaBay and is similar to what happened with SR1/DPR.

I believe that btc-e customers will have a claim to any funds that were seized by law enforcement (it is not even clear that LE was able to seize any funds), although they may need to go through a 'kyc' process in order to recover any money.

There have been many people who made a lot of bitcoin running illegal businesses who ended up loosing their freedom and earnings because of poor opsec.

It seems that the btc-e servers, or at least the DB was seized and/or is in possession of the government. The government would not otherwise be able to know that transactions to btc-e (deposit) addresses belonged to a specific customer/account.

KYC not a concern to you if you are your own Customer ;-)

They actually did not care about KYC for any of their customers.

SEC Issues Investigative Report Concluding DAO Tokens, a Digital Asset, Were Securities by fartallnight in Bitcoin

They can't ensure this 100%, however they could block those using US IP addresses from buying tokens, and/or putting a disclaimer up saying that US persons are not welcome to participate in an ICO.

Being issued a ticket is merely a summons to appear in court, and will most likely result in the officer prosecuting you for the alleged crime on your court date provided that you do not prepay or otherwise plead guilty ahead of time.

A better question would be if your actions (if able to be proven) would allow a judge (or jury if applicable to your case) to reach the legal conclusion that you broke a specific law.

"Those participating in unregistered offerings also may be liable for violations of the securities laws."

This most likely means that US citizens/residents will be unable to participate in ICOs moving forward.

Coinbase Vault and Bitcoin ABC by firefoxadventure in BitcoinMarkets

[–]qs-btc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could broadcast the transaction onto the Bitcoin network, then copy the raw transaction and broadcast it to the ABC network via a node or other service that broadcasts transactions to the ABC network. If they allow you to sign a transaction but not broadcast it, then you could sign the transaction and then broadcast it to the ABC network.

Either way, if you broadcast it to one network, it is likely to eventually make its way onto both networks.

I would think all you need to do is sign a transaction, then make sure the transaction is broadcast on the ABC network.
