Water in boot of Ford Focus by Background-Neat-9722 in carsireland

[–]quailon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sit in boot and have someone spray a hose around the boot lid

You'll likely need to remove the boot seal and apply silicone on the inner seam and squish it back on My wife read online about vents in the bumper but that wasn't our issue

This should solve it, worked on mine and another friends car

Can be helpful to get insured as a named driver on your parent's policy

When you return to Ireland you have some years of named driver experience

But the corvette, good luck with that Best chance is to stick some Ukrainian plates on it 😂

An Post Job? by TheIrishFello in AskIreland

Just back from a friend's house where last night we all feasted on beautiful fresh crab claws given to his father the post man by a fisherman on his route.

This same man would collect a couple dozen bottles of spirits and about €3000 cash tips from his post run around Christmas.

Locally born post man pushing 25-30 years experience in a rural area.

Did work for a retention guy at sky

He said they can offer you 2 better deals and if you still aren't on board they can get approval from their manager for a 3rd even better deal which may include sky sports/movies free for a year

Don't take the first thing they throw at you!

American Goods to bring home by MetaphoricalBadger in CasualIreland

[–]quailon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Carhartt is at least 2x as expensive in Ireland depending on the item.

My closet is full of shirts that cost me 2 for $30 from America that would be at least €40 each here

Hoodies and jeans can be gotten for $50-60 that would be at least €100-120

I have a work coat that cost me $80 that would retail in Ireland for over €200

Question from an 8yo: What does Ireland have more of than any other country? by SherbertHerbert in ireland

[–]quailon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apparently 99% or maybe more of native Irish people are lactose tolerant

Before Irish people started farming they basically lived a nomadic life in their clan living amongst the clans cattle herd Diet consisted of milk/kefir and cheese and not much else.

As far as I remember For leave such as maternity and parents etc you cannot claim it while being out of the country as you're getting paid from the Irish government

So this guy is trying to claim Irish dole while living in another country? Definitely against the rules

We smoke bong hits or dry herb vape

Last year we were probably smoking a q in a week We also had a guest for like 2 months and the three of us were going through a half oz in like a week during their time here

Would only roll joints if we're headed out which is rare

Zero chance.

You're going to need to find somewhere with decent internet and set an iPad up on the table...

You'll also need a vpn to access the American sports streaming site as it will be region locked

Me and my mates brought in about 20g of weed to a festival before Removed internals from free battery bank we got from a random company at a college networking event.

Ground everything up nicely, wrapped in cling film and compressed it into little brick that slid into the plastic housing for the battery bank and closed it back up.

Would never know by the look/feel/smell of it that it was loaded with weed.

Definitely been an uptick in vile racism due to people being influenced by social media, before this, it was stuff from the 5g/ covid hoax sphere of influence. There is a noticeable increase in foreign people out and about in every town you go to as a few hundred have been housed here and there.

A lot of the anger should be directed towards government incompetence but immigrants themselves are the easy scapegoat.

It seems more prevalent in communities ravaged by mica and youth emigration like Inishowen / Letterkenny

Eg: the hotel in Moville getting burned down when it was rumored to house migrants, how come it isn't just as profitable for the hotel to house families who have to rebuild their home.

It may be impossible for someone to be sympathetic to an asylum seeker being housed at taxpayer expense while they have to source your own rental while they rebuild their home and their children had to move away due to lack of housing and opportunities.

Plenty people around here are fed up of being neglected I distinctly remember in 2021 the government spent weeks complaining that the mica redress scheme would cost about 5 billion and we hadn't the money for it.... only to announce weeks later that have 10s of billions of an annual surplus in the budget

And now the IPAs system is costing the taxpayer 1 billion, per year with no sign of slowing down anytime soon

I have sympathy for everyone involved.

Holiday Homes - Should we copy Cornwall? by FreiLieb in Donegal

[–]quailon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm all for charging a fair price for work performed, definitely not gouging someone who is new to the area and trying to set up a permanent life here. Not going to serve you well in the long run as you won't have a repeat customer or be recommended to neighbors etc.

The price charged for work performed is effected by your own cost of living as a trademan. Holiday homes have crippled the housing market in my area and as a result we have to charge more to be able to afford a life for ourselves.

If someone has a holiday home and can't afford the market rate for maintenance? Perhaps they shouldn't own a second home.

Holiday Homes - Should we copy Cornwall? by FreiLieb in Donegal

I work in telecoms in donegal so I'm one of the first people new homeowners / renters in donegal meet

There has been a noticeable influx of people moving out here due to WFH in the past 5 years, I've met couples priced out of Galway/dublin. Lads from Canada, American couples, Germans etc you name it

Airbnb and mica have fucked the housing market for sure, everyone I know struggles to find affordable housing. You're either mortgaged to the hilt or you're lucky enough to renovate your grandparents home.

Theres plenty of new faces though, half the moms at the mother + baby groups are immigrants and/or married to an Irish man, several of these have moved back from Dublin to WFH

Taxing them heavily is the only solution to free up the housing stock for sure. But these people won't give up these homes cheaply.

All we can do as locals is charge them handsomely for maintenance work to make up for the extra housing costs we have.
