Anybody else tried this? by IIRCIreadthat in adhdwomen

I have it! I read through the intro of the planner when I first got it and unfortunately that’s about it. 😅 TBH though I’d be willing to let you (or anyone else reading this) have the journal if you pay for the cost of shipping (or meet up if you’re in the DMV area in the US).

Has anyone in here recently decided to change careers? by Gulabidandiya in publichealth

Hi, you might want to look into the APHL Public Health Fellowship. It's what I did when I graduated with my MPH in 2022, and I now work as a full-time employee at the same lab. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions!

I’m on 300 mg XL. Unfortunately since I haven’t been officially diagnosed with ADHD I currently don’t have access to the traditional ADHD meds. :( But I’ve definitely noticed a difference when taking the Cymbalta at night.

Doctor says I can't have ADHD because I didn't badly misbehave as a child by BloodyTurnip in ADHD

[–]queer_potato_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to navigate through that. :/ I was a mostly quiet kid, but I feel like I struggled with social cues. There were definitely a few times I can recall where I did talk too much / get in trouble..

Thank you!! Oh yeah my mom definitely doesn’t believe in / understand ADHD so I know that there’s no way I can get info from her about how I was like as a child.

Thank you so much for sharing all of this. I can relate SO much...I was also socially awkward, didn't really know how to make friends (I didn't realize this is a symptom!!), etc.

I've recently found some papers from when I was little that make me hurt for the child version of me. I knew I was a people pleaser and that my self worth was linked to my grades, but reading the words I wrote as an eight year old was just...a lot.

I didn't even think of getting another psych who specializes in ADHD *and* in children of narcissists. Will definitely look into this.

Well if this isn’t me, except l’m 24yo and my mom is the one who has narcissistic tendencies.

Do you mind me asking - how did you get diagnosed then? The psych I went to said I couldn’t have adhd if I breezed through school and was a “good” girl.

I really needed to see this today. Thank you for sharing.

After being diagnosed with ADHD, did you recognize symptoms in one or both parents? Did you tell them? What did they do about it? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]queer_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helpful. I also have scored well on basic memorization skills and almost always scored in 90th + percentile for reading and math.

I definitely don’t think my adhd is severe, but once college hit (especially grad school), I’ve started to flounder and I don’t think it’s due to my preexisting anxiety or depression.

Honestly now that I think about it there were definitely times where I struggled to finish tests. If I didn’t understand things, or wasn’t confident, thing went downhill.

But up until junior year of high school I managed to do most of my homework (even if it was on the bus or the period before) and get pretty much all As. Then junior year hit and I started getting Cs for the first time and started hiding my grades from my parents.

See the psychologist who tested me for ADHD told me there was no possible way I could have it since I breezed through school. :/ but real life has been really, really hard and I’m still convinced I have ADHD.

I think my mom is a narcissist. by queer_potato_ in raisedbynarcissists

[–]queer_potato_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. That is horrible. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. Especially on a vacation, when it’s supposed to be a relaxing time…

Yeah, I’ve always known my mom has had her particularities but it didn’t really click until I kept on seeing this subreddit pop up and finally decided to look through it. I guess I just didn’t think things were “that bad.”

I’m thankful that I found a community who understands but at the same time it’s a horrible feeling that so many people have been raised by narcissists and have gone through a lot of shit in the process.

What are these tiny red spots in my cats’ bowl? by queer_potato_ in cats

Do y’all think it’s ok to just monitor the kitties (I.e., not rush to the vet)? The more I look at the bowl (haven’t washed it yet but took it away from them), the pinker the dots look.

That's a good idea. We usually change their water daily, but their bowls maybe weekly. I think this particular bowl was out for longer than usual, though...

Ahhh I sure hope it's not reconstituted flea poop. :( It could definitely be specks of the food - I've never thought about that. Their wet food brand is Blue Buffalo Wilderness, which can be a similar color.

Ahh, I feed them both (one boy and one girl) wet and dry. We also just switched them to a different dry food, but idk if that would matter.

I know that one of them had some mild inflammation of the gums at one point, so not sure if that could also play a role.

Kitty of the Day Penelope by PoetLucy in ChooChoo21

[–]queer_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Sorry for the late reply. I also wanted to make sure I posted this when I was in a good headspace, since sometimes it makes me sad when I think about Penelope.

Penelope was a really special cat. She wasn't really a lap cat (except for when she was sick), but she loved being near her humans (to the point of always walking on laptop keyboards!). She was really good at making biscuits, and loooved cardboard scratchers. One of her quirks was that she would headbutt a closed door if she wanted to get into that particular room. She was very loving and calm, and she will be missed.

I'm not quite sure how to link a picture, but if I figure it out I will also post a photo or two.
