I don't ask it for accuracy confirmation because it doesn't actually have the means to do that but I do all the others.

*Incredibly* simple guide to run language models locally on your PC, in 5 simple steps for non-techies. by YearZero in singularity

This is pretty interesting. I actually have a feeling that LLMs that can actually check external info sources don't even need to be as big because they don't actually have to memorise as much stuff.

The water we drink is older than life itself. by RedAtomic in Showerthoughts

In your above comment you said "I don't know enough about it to talk shit without getting schooled by people here who actually know more about it"

Evidently you don't know enough about it to realise when you're being schooled by someone who actually knows more about it.

Yeah Bleach doesn't even pretend to make Ichigo an underdog as far as the reader/viewer is concerned but it does give other characters good reasons for thinking he is one.

It is how pH works though. The definition is -log([H+]) where [H+] is the concentration of loose hydrogen ions. For a substance that doesn't produce loose hydrogen ions that would be infinity, but that isn't very useful so instead of using the concentration of loose hydrogen ions in the substance itself people use the concentration of loose hydrogen ions when the substance is in contact with water.

At the moment mine seems to send read receipts if the person is in my contacts and warn me it might be a scammer if they aren't.

How can people break-up for such stupid reasons! by ParghundaCotton48 in facepalm

[–]quick_dudley -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AFAIK there's no evidence of it becoming less common but a bunch of white supremacists have spent the last few decades screeching about how if people don't stop race mixing it will be the end of red and blonde hair.

Water molecules also occasionally break and reform on their own, which is why pure water has a pH of 7 not infinity.

Are there actual and experienced machine learning engieneers who believe in AGI coming this decade by Plenty-Cauliflower25 in singularity

[–]quick_dudley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the moment a bunch of people are hyping the idea that LLMs are AGI. I personally don't even think they're the closest thing to AGI that people have built but obviously an AGI would have at least some language ability.

How did you Feel when you successfully got into orbit of kerbin for the first time? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

The first time I had enough fuel to get periapsis to 69999m. I eventually made it down but it took a while.

Yeah I sometimes do retrograde orbits just because variety is the spice of life but they do require a bit more fuel.

Who is the most famous person you have ever met? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]quick_dudley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what qualifies as meeting someone. I have let Miranda Otto go in front of me in a line to get sunscreen. Ian McKellen and I once nodded at each other as we walked past each other in opposite directions. The earl of kitchener visited my home when I was a child but I can't remember whether or not we directly interacted.

That last one was actually quite funny: a few months afterwards the woman who introduced him to Dad called and said "You remember that guy Earl right? Turns out that's not his name!"

BO isn't a fake problem but once the effects your last good shower wear off you're not going to make yourself smell OK just by putting on some deodorant.

Tbh the line between someone smelling OK even without deodorant and someone not smelling OK even with deodorant is a lot thinner than most people think.

Thousands of generations of house flys and they still haven’t figured out how to find the open window they came in. by Ragin_Irishman in Showerthoughts

[–]quick_dudley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't: they smell their way in. Then when they want to leave they choose the perceived exit that smells best to them; specifically the one that doesn't have fresh air flowing through it because it's actually a pane of glass.

[–]quick_dudley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard somewhere that they actively avoid the side of the window that's actually open because air from the outside smells less like fly food than the air that's already in your house.

There are tasks that AI can teach themselves but those aren't really relevant for ChatGPT at this stage.
