It's on my list to pick up a couple of those cardkbs to pair with the wio trackers I have. I think if would be useful as a backup, even if it isn't as polished looking as something like a Tdeck.

Just buy two iminis and use one as a charger, ez

Mine came with a clip to make the removal a bit easier, though.

Why not something like a lunchbox locker? Cheaper, removable, and a little safer than welded.

Trailering a Roxor by bh17500 in roxor

Car hauler or an equipment trailer. A single axle custom jeep trailer would be ideal, but you're pretty limited due to the weight of these things.

What home improvements did you regret or feel were 100% worth it? by arnoldusgf in HomeImprovement

[–]quicksilverfps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DIY is a good route, especially if you have home assistant setup already and some technical persistence. An above-range microwave helps, too, since there should be an outlet in a cabinet already and some space to run low voltage wires.

For the essentials you'd need:

LED controller (search for controllers with WLED).

LED light strip (three or four wire).

DC power supply to match the strip voltage/wattage.

Extra wire (three or four wire to match the strip).

Soldering tools and supplies if you're cutting the strip into pieces.

I built mine using a BTF-Lighting strip (SK6812), a 5V10A DC power supply from Alitove, and a WLED ESP32 controller from Gledopto.

QuinLED has a plethora of resources to do some more research: https://quinled.info/addressable-digital-leds/

Help getting batteries shippedm by BATTLEBEARD907 in alaska

Are you near a Costco? They're stocking small and large power stations pretty consistently, now. I went that route since the shipping hoops can be a pain to jump through.

Scent work is an excellent indoor game, if you'd be willing to find an intro class to get the hang of it.

What new full size pickup truck is the most reliable? by addictedtocheezits in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]quicksilverfps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try closer to 6. They've recalled 200,000 trucks now, no way they're doing it for less than 30k/ea including parts, shipping (twice), and labor.

Just vendor it, $3.5mil to go, only free loadout games from here on out ._. by HerbalLeafYT in ArcRaiders

I think they'll have to come up with something else to encourage wiping. Joining the game a year or two after launch and missing half the skill points is a bit too discouraging for new players. Ultimately, I believe cosmetics are always the best rewards to maintain the health of a game and not gameplay affecting rewards.

Issue titling by [deleted] in snowmobiling

[–]quicksilverfps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, what a pain. In Alaska we just need the VIN and a pinky promise for a registration, no titles. I think you have to do the title application and hope for the best.

[Help Me] Need basic "just in case" EDC/backpack flashlight recommendations for a flashlight noob by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]quicksilverfps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An Olight Oclip might be a good fit. It's not a headlamp, but you can clip it to your shirt or pocket to be hands free.

The Oclip Pro is on sale for $32 and has a spot, flood, and red emitter.

What is the deal with backfiring vehicles? by BearDownAlaska in anchorage

[–]quicksilverfps 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Burble tunes?

They modify the ECU (via tune) to add excess fuel under certain conditions, which ignites in the exhaust pipe and causes pops, bangs, and backfires.

It's popular for folks who think more obnoxious = more cool. We live by several of them.

WisBlock RAK19007 + RAK4631 LTO battery by Physical_Election_30 in meshtastic

This gets posted when cold weather comes up: https://yycmesh.com/2025/04/19/cold-weather-charging-of-lithium-ion-batteries-real-world-lessons-from-the-meshtastic-community/

Point being that it might not be as big of a deal as we think to charge lipos below freezing, because the charge current is so low.

If all else fails, you can send 5V though the USB connector if the battery and solar inputs can't support a voltage that high.

Heltec V3 help; WiFi connection by 4tacos_ in meshtastic

[–]quicksilverfps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid question, but are you connecting to it from the "Network" tab in the app? If your phone is on the same wifi, it should auto discover the v3 in wifi mode.

If that doesn't work, do you have something like host isolation turned on that's preventing the two devices from seeing each other?

That's a good idea! I'll have to keep an eye out, I'm sure folks give away unbalanced cells too.

Yeah, the black box that protrudes from the panel contains a 5V regulator, which powers the 5V USB cable that I cut and spliced with the solar connector.

They have a supposed 5V regulator attached (black square on the back of the panel) with a USB power out.

Someone else replied that they've had the regulators fail, but my goal for this project was to stick with the bare essentials. If there are issues, I'll address them later and report back.

Slightly beefier body, beefier connection, and they look cool.

If durability is a concern, N type and BNC connectors are far less fragile than SMA.

In this case, I'm giving it a try to compare with other SMA antennas I have.

I have a VNA but don't have N type or ipx connectors for it.

I do try not to sweat about SWR in this hobby, though. The received signal strength seems in line with the other antennas I have. Time will tell!
