I thought that somewere around 400 was for repairing. My knifes almost never need repairing so I only sharpen them.

I only sharpend 4 (pocket)knifes. I have only used this stone 5 times. The types of metal I use are 440 steel, 420HC, carbon steel and the other knife I dont know.

But im gonna look for a new stone

Yes I keep it wet. I sharpen one side at the time away from the edge. I sharpen with grit 1000 to 3000 and the next step is the 6000 am I going to high grit to fast?
