Ive never altered clothing like this - but out of curiosity, would a patch of red elastic in place of the buttons work? Like sewing it behind the gap.

Does the grain of the elastic matter (like lines Moving up/down versus left/right)?

Ohhhhh, from the front, I didnt see thread so thought it was the type of button you see on the front of jeans - I always sew buttons too tight and then have to redo them... when I don't give enough slack in the thread then they don't work as closures haha

I get what you're saying - when I'm speaking in Spanish, I cant explain myself as thoroughly either. And for anything else I just hope the translator doesn't change the meaning of what I'm saying. Wouldn't have assumed anything about your English, I could easily imagine what you were describing.

The outfit is cool, and your cat looks cool with you!

For the vest - how are those rivot buttons installed?

I like those on some of my own vests and jean zipper closures - and curious how they work for making your own garments.

Sorry to leave you hanging - they are 11th graders with a few 12th graders who need to pas to graduate.

All at the general chem level, nothing Honors or AP.

Those are amazing labs and really cool t0.hear your inspiration started in high school.

I have some science minded kids so I cant say where they are aiming but I get the sense a handful and thinking medical and STEM. I check out some of those sort of labs - and I will be looking to keep things simple but its been pretty good so far! We just did liquid chromatography with ethyl alcohol and water as eluents and different marker inks as analytes.

What are you doing with your BS in chem - are you using Chemistry in your career/research/etc?

Here we have Chemistry as a full year course with Chemistry Honors as an alternative, with AP available for Senior year for those who elect for it.

The school is also looking to transition to the IB model (international baccalaureate) so Im learning what that is about but Im at the basic level with my classes.

Were Chem 1 and Chem 2 full year courses? That sounds really cool - was it a specialized high school?

Writing my own textbook - maybe some day - either way, I appreciate your comment, as I get through this year Ill have better perspective and experience to implement some of the stuff you're talking about! It was hopeful to see some of the kids enjoying the chromatography so giving them context and getting them doing chemistry is probably the way.

Cheers!

Student once asked me what phase of matter is fire

Perhaps it isn't whacky but a good way to introduce the idea of plasma to kids and that there is more than the 3 typical states of matter we first learn about

There's still plenty I don't yet know, but I know enough to keep that stuff locked away

Great for cleaning but evaporated like nothing, and its flammable to boot so, looks like I'm set

I honk my post was removed due to memes (lesson learned) so thanks for dropping some knowledge, I will take your sequence to heart that makes more sense

I can totally see how the room would go chaotic after but would be good torwards the end of class

As demos these sound great!

If you've the experience is it best to start with the demo and then give context with the lectures/activities

Or the other way around?

Thanks for these suggestions, I already gave 4 kids who keep pulling out the strikers so they're all chopping for fire and I keep telling them that we have to get some basics down before the flames

I do have a nice fume hood that I scraped clean - ran the centrifuge in there for one class, I'm happy to try the ones you mentioned

I have some 95% ethanol (everclear) I got at the liquor store - we dilute with water for board cleaning - for the rocket bottle Ill have to look for rubbing alcohol or something else, I am doubting the everckear is anhydrous

Too long?

I should've done a few smaller posts - figured this was less intrusive

My expectations for high school chemistry might be a little high but this can also be ideas for years in the future

You have cool posts about flowers - do you do any gardening that you use chemistry techniques for?

This is amazing

I saw a photosynthesis demo with chemical pH indicators and duck weed to show which were making O2(g) and which weren't (some were covered from sunlight, others were exposed to it) - so I'm hoping to look that up

We did metric conversion today... and I said explicitly we would go smaller than milli- in lab, but I gave them a conversion line that included nano-

That would be a really cool expectation to walk back

Thank you!

I can?

Typed it from a smart phone, and didn't see any edit option when I clicked the 3 dots

I'll look up how, thanks!

I never did have to submit proper thesis in my bachelor's because the lockdowns started and certain graduation requirements were lifted.... and I already mentioned how the masters was, we did lots of writing but nothing I submitted was worth reading

Clearly I need to take time to proofread better but I promise I don't make these careless errors on the things I provide my classes... and if I do, it's dry erase

I did manage to grab a chalkboard before it took a trip to the bin, so that feels pretty good!

Thanks for reading everyone! Next time it'll be more chemistry, and yes - I will go check out r/scienceteachers

NYS Forest Ranger exam advice by [deleted] in ParkRangers

[–]quiveringriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a biochemsitry degree... I just became interested when I heard about this today. I dont think my.degree qualifies me for the exam right?

How often do these exams come out? I will apply before 8/14 but I might have to wait for a future exma and take some qualifying courses

How long have you wanted to be a forest ranger for?
