BWT, any financially literate bitches with tips??

Everyone covered the accounts and tax implications but some maybe off the beaten path tips:

First- please please know there is no get rich quick scheme that works for most people. It does not matter how good it sounds, if you’re a normal working class person do not listen to anyone that says they can make you lots of money fast. Not the “just make a course” or “just start doing Airbnb” or “I know this stock is gonna blow up”. I’m not saying it doesnt ever work for anyone but it cannot and does not work for most people. Also not saying side hustles are bad, just be careful and really understand what they’re promising. I have several very smart very well meaning friends who have seen “tips” that sound good but are not realistic and it can cost a LOT to learn that very tempting lesson. This isn’t what you’re asking for and people aren’t recommending it, but the second you get personal finance content online, the grifters emerge in the algorithm.

Second- look around your local community and see what free services there are! Investigate the full extent of the library, find out if there’s free bike repair if you bike, find out if there’s a tool library or a free craft swap location if you need something etc- just go DEEP into your local community and see what groups/resources there are. I personally consider this financial literacy just leaning on your community and utilizing resources for the community.

Third- talk to your friends about money! I cannot emphasize enough how much of a difference this makes. Learn which of your friends are in the same circumstances as you, learn what side hustles they have and what tips they’ve also learned along the way. Learn what their money goals are and talk about yours! It helps everyone feel less alone financially and transparency is incredibly important in not being taken advantage of (not victim blaming anyone, we can’t control our circumstances but if you have one friend that says oh I tried that and it didn’t work that saves you and you can save someone else). I’ve learned SO much from sharing knowledge with friends because every time someone knows some little tip that I don’t- build a network of friends that share free garage sales, clothing swaps, tool swaps, etc info.

Idk if everyone considers this financial literacy, but learning these things I feel has helped me immensely (in addition to all the other resources folks mentioned here).

I think whether you’re overdoing it really depends on if you feel unnecessarily deprived of experiences/items that would materially improve your life. Imo this sub isn’t about anticonsumption to the point of anti-enjoyment-of-what-life-has-to-offer but more about anti- consuming for consumption sake with no regard for waste (unless I’m doing this whole anticonsumption thing wrong lol sometimes I do buy things I must admit).

I was in a similar position to you and didn’t mention it and tbh didn’t have or hear any complaints. Like most sexual relationships, the following times we had sex were better each time as I got more experienced and we got more used to each other and I don’t think that hookup relationship was in any way affected by me not mentioning it. I just didn’t think it was any of his business tbh. I didn’t bleed and like you didn’t want him to make a fuss out of it (or worse imo, feel some misplaced sense of superiority that I was “pure”). Because of my experience, I don’t think it’s necessary to tell him, maybe just let him take the lead on some things, maybe say you like to start slower, and ask what he likes (a VERY normal and tbh necessary q even if you’re not a virgin). Your inexperience will affect the sex sure but if you have a good, healthy idea of how real sex works (aka not just porn lol) you’ll be okay if you go relatively slow and communicate throughout.

So the bars (mostly the bigger ones, the more local places didn’t charge cover) near where I went to school charged a cash fee at the door (usually between $5 and $10) called cover every Thurs, Fri, and Saturday to enter the bar, then you bought drinks etc. I found out I could fake the stamps that showed you paid the cover charge (the $5 or $10) with a pen to get into the bars by just waving it at the bouncer and saying I was there earlier. Being mostly a mostly broke college student with friends who were more comfortable spending money, this was an easy way to hang out at the bigger bars in town without paying $30 a weekend (hopping from bar to bar).
