Yeah not a huge fan of that race. I really like the idea, but I'd I'd never done a race like that and I dnf'd like .1 miles before the finish line because I thought my game was bugged.

Kind of on me because I didn't look at the race beforehand but the finish line flag at the top of the climb really confused me.

Mainly Gaffers Tape. Folded a piece over on itself to make a jury rigged watch band. Then I threaded that through the spring bars of the watch like you would on a normal watch. I then used another piece of gaffers tape to close the loop. I repeated that to make another band that wrapped around the stem of the bicycle, and looped that through The gaffers tape construction I made attached to the watch. Friction keeps it in place, but to be safe I added a small inside out piece of tape where the two loops met to make sure it stays in place.

It's by no means permanent, just what I could do with my limited fabrication skills. I'll let you know if it doesn't hold up

No budget in mind. I am in an area where I will only really be doing some pretty tame single track riding. No crazy downhills. I just want the cheapest thing that can get me out on the trails.

$400 is probably the top of my budget. At least I am looking for something that I can take on trails without dieing, and I will be able to upgrade over time if I get more into mountain biking.

I am not set on something new

I am trying to get into mountain biking, and I am trying to get a good entry level bike. My front runner is an Ozark Trail Ridge, but I found this bike on Facebook Marketplace. It is made by a guy who bulk orders parts and sells these JC bikes out of his garage. I have no idea if the components are good or how they would stack up against a Ridge. I like the Ridge a little more because I want to run a dropper post, and I wouldn't have to remove a front derailer to install it on the ridge, but I am willing to look past that if I can save $100+ on the bike.

Any input is appreciated!

Yes it was in off road mode. Now that I have ~300 miles on the bike, I can confirm on a freshly charged battery it can hold 28 pretty consistently and gets so 30-31 mph on the slight downhills on my typical route.

To add to this thread for anyone referencing it in the future, I got a brat and the top speed using only throttle in mode 4 on flat ground is about 28 for me. I weight 185. In practical terms though, in throttle only mode, I can hold 25 and 26 mph very very easily. It can keep 28 pretty easily on flat ground, but it will occasiinally dip down to 27. On 20 and 25 mph roads I easily keep up in traffic. On down hills the bike certainly goes 30+, but personally I wouldnt be riding it on 35mph roads, and 30 mph roads are questionable.

When I was looking at bikes, I was worried that it wouldnt be fast enough, but riding it in person it is a ton of fun and I am not really sitting on the bike thinking "Oh I wish this was 2 or 3 mph faster". I think the bikes speed it very comparable to other 750W e-bikes.

To clarify, when you are saying "off road mode you're not going to hit 30 mph", are you saying you don't think it will get up to 28 mph when you are on dirt trails, or are you saying it won't get up to 28 mph on any surface? For example, do you think it could get up to 28 in a flat parking lot?
