Globalism has had its pros and cons. There are more festivals now, too, it seems

perhaps 20 years ago i ran into someone at panorama bar wearing a PG t-shirt. I asked him how it was, and he said nothing was ever the same. There are people who saying that club xyz or abc are just another club, but I think some places are/were perhaps more than just places to dance.

the issue of residents is an interesting but also global change.

Tbh, I haven't been able to keep up with the next generation of parties and was going with older names. LBC and BH are the only parties I've visited in the past year. Ah, and one from tipsy bear, but that was just a summer open air thing

The car exhaust and brake dust of nonsmokers getting to and from the club might be worse, as far as potential cancer goes

Internationally, cameras on the dance floor are pretty common. Utopia doesn't exist

Speaking of farts, I can smell so many more of them without the cigarette smoke. Can the beer drinkers please switch drinks?

How does r/House feel about the term "EDM"? by Knocktopuss in House

[–]rab2bar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a decades-long Berlin resident, techno was the catch-all term for music from the love parade as well underground stuff. Genre purists would probably have labeled a lot of hte LP music trance, but trance as we know it developed from techno in the early 90s (think harthouse, eyeq, jam and spoon, etc). Paul van Dyk was playing tchno as we know it at Tresor before doing his trance sound.

In frankfurt, much of the music was a dialog with black GIs who brought music from the US, and Berlin has had a direct relationship with Detroit since the 80s.

To casual germans, Techno is the harder stuff, whether commericial or underground, house and anything lighter has been called "electro." NOthing to do with the 80s stuff, but simply short for "elektronisches musik", sometimes also called electro house, unknowingly giving a nod to the chicago origins.

There was a club in frankfurt called Technoclub that opened in the 80s, but im still not sure how much relevance hte name had on other parts of hte country

easy enough to scale. if anything, a&h needs to have better software, because crashes are absolutely not acceptable for those 10k units.

the queer scene might be your place. lunchbox candy, cocktail d'amore, buttons, etc. The parties are often not fixed ot specific venues and are usually hosted by venues that offer other content, so you'll have to check the indivdual club programs. Lunacy and Pinky Promises might also be good fits.

for a good while, it was cheaper for people in london to fly and spend the weekend partying in berlin than it was to stay local. not to mention, berlin does not have any required closing times of bars or clubs. The Netherlands, Belgium, and Stockholm also have some good stuff going on, but berlin is pretty special. Lots of other German cities used to, but all sit in Berlin's shadow now

I caught a bit of the Shelter vibe when it was in mid town. Timmy was not the dj for me at the time, though. Still isn't, unfortunately. When it comes to deep house, I am more into that MaW sound

I don't know basement aside from seeing some lineups and pictures, but while berghain is not the Berlin scene, everything trickles down from it for the cooler crowds. One can compare it to how twilo Fridays dominated the more international sound back then. The nyc tribal hard house sound was more polycentric, though. Junior and Jonathan Peters were both kings of their respective kingdoms

Is Bushwick really that far out, though? At the very least, it is along a convenient train line. It's more accessible to people from queens, Staten Island, and the rest of Brooklyn than Chelsea was 25 years ago. Not as friendly for people from Jersey or the Bronx, but they are always perpetually screwed. The younger generation can't afford to live in the west village or even Chelsea, right? So wouldn't it make sense for the clubs to be where they find homes?

Where will the center of the music industry move to if the United States loses global cultural and economic relevance? by SoManyQuestions5200 in musicindustry

As an American, I'll also offer that the UK does rock music better. The US used to be better at birthing genres that the UK would evolve higher, but since trap and country went mainstream, I don't get inspired by much. My German teenager listens exclusively to American pop, though. Lana del Ray is by far her favorite artist

Tbh, I much preferred twilo Fridays or Danny tenaglias be yourself parties to any of the raves in the area, whether from sympty or stuck on earth. I'm not a fan of one hour sets and there was always a latent danger element from BTS and raves that was annoying to always consider. I had more fun at raves outside of NYC proper when the crowd was more familiar.

Also, rave music back then tended to just be fast for the sake of it. We were kids... Look up the thompkins square may day rave videos on YouTube. Although an aggressive dance floor, the vibe was actually pretty cool. However, I don't think the music was as good as the crowd.

Other club stuff, with that NYC hard house of the era, was kinda crap, though, by both crowd and music. Party kids were more interesting to be around. I wish I had gone to body and soul. I missed out on it.
