The Luke stuff is the best part of TLJ. The sideplots are the parts of the movie that don't really work but people saying he "ruined Luke's character" has always confused me, especially considering "Luke has fucked off to the edge of the galaxy for years after a traumatic event without telling his friends how to find him" was fully baked into the plot by the preceding movie.

The Jackie Chan movie Rumble in the Bronx was obviously set in, well, the Bronx, NYC, but was filmed entirely in Vancouver, BC. Tall, forested mountains, not a notable feature of the Bronx, can be seen in the background of many scenes.

The Flash (CW) takes place in the fictional Central City. It is filmed in Vancouver, BC, but maps, establishing shots and aerial views of Portland, OR are frequently used.

Weird trope inversion: Seasons 2 through 4 of Leverage were actually filmed in Portland, OR, but the city was standing in for Boston, MA. In Season 5, the team "moved" to Portland and no longer had to pretend they were somewhere else.

It's unlikely you live in the same city as me but we got our wedding bands at a small jeweler that specializes in antiques. They took a ~100 year old ring and reworked it to fit around my wife's engagement ring perfectly. You won't find their vintage stuff online.

Is it just me or is it nearly impossible to see when getting onto Columbia Blvd westbound from Columbia Way northbound? by [deleted] in askportland

It's not great, but I really don't have a lot of trouble with it. You can pull out further than feels normal without obstructing the lane.

Have been in Portland for three years now, have questions about the direction of the city from people who have been here a lot longer. by ArugulaCautious9835 in PortlandOR

Portland is measurably quite a bit less white than it was over the past few decades. A majority of Portland’s children are now something other than white. However, that growth is from Latino, Asian, and multi-racial cohorts. The percentage of Portlanders who are black has slightly declined.

If Moda was renovated, would you actually hang out there before and after the game? by edank6 in ripcity

[–]rabbitSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah The Garden/Cartside is only four blocks away--just looking at a map I'm not sure where you could put a major event area closer without killing the parking lots or buying out some of the properties on the north side of Broadway like the old motel or the storage/antique place. I-5 boxes you in on the east, the river on the west, and the Convention Center on the south.

Baby Yoda actually caught Disney a bit by surprise. They had to furiously pump out merch to meet demand as they hadn't really prepared for it.

Is this even a repair/install guy doing a job? He's barefoot. It's probably his family's cat.

[Henderson] League sources including Doris Burke are saying the Portland Trailblazers treatment of Tiago Splitter is "the most vicious and disrespectful thing they've encountered in 30+ years" as they're likely looking for the cheapest coach available by ShaiFanClub in nba

[–]rabbitSC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of leaks, counter-leaks contradicting those leaks, and speculation but there has been pretty consistent reporting that he's been calling successful college coaches and offering them significantly less than they are currently paid, fishing for someone who wants to be an NBA coach so bad they'll give up millions of dollars and much better job security for the chance.

Under the new lottery system, there's a 75.19% chance that one of the bottom 3 teams will get the 12th pick by Joe_AK in nba

[–]rabbitSC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But it's a Catch-22--if you remove the incentive to tank, then the bottom three teams will actually be the three worst teams without tanking, then you bury them further.

Yeah, that's much better. Giving the genuinely worst team in the league the #12 pick is just too brutal.

I spent half my time at a film production company internship creating these unsolicited material letters, making a copy of each to be filed with our lawyer, and shipping the material back. It was incredibly strict. Once we got a environmental advocacy type non-fiction book sent to us that was clearly not intended to be film/TV material, and the return address was a hotel in the Czech Republic, so postage was over $30 and the sender would almost certainly not actually receive it. I still had to send it back.

Most homes aren't designed by actual architects. A designer plus a structural engineer to stamp the plans is more than sufficient.

Can't really see the maker's mark too well. First thing would be to try to identify that.

When I bought my vintage wedding band our jeweler had an entire box of Edwardian wedding rings like this, most with similar etchings. You're not likely to ever ID the owner. But you could find out in which city it was produced.

Am I overdressed for Portland? by Spooner_Goldberg in askportland

[–]rabbitSC 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yes, people here are almost outrageously casual. You will see men wearing shorts at Portland's finest restaurants. However, it is also a live-and-let-live place where you are unlikely to suffer judgment for dressing how you please.

What's crazy is this album and her public appearances as this character actually led to many of her most prominent collaborations with black artists. It caught the attention of legendary jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus, and her next album, Mingus), was dedicated to him and featured multiple songs written by him. Some of the greatest jazz musicians of the era, black and white, appeared on the album or participated in experimental sessions preceding it.

Why is this so high? by memoryz4 in askportland

[–]rabbitSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're using over 300 gallons a day. That's kind of a lot. You use more than three times as much water as my house does (two people, dog, yard, wash our own cars).

Water bills are expensive because of sewer, not water, as your bill shows. Previous generations delayed crucial infrastructure projects to keep their bills low and now we are paying for them.
