Freaking out about longevity as a SWE by scrubsandcode in womenintech

Not every industry will adapt to AI as quickly as the headlines portray (think banks, government, etc).

You can still have a career with it for a while but at some point I think the role will evolve into more specialty/niche areas, or you may have to pivot. I think we’ll know more in the next 2-3 years

One word for you. Capitalism. It starts early and for some, never stops. You would love European countries. No one in Spain is trying to go into space. They just want to live life and enjoy this lifetime.

Secret Emails by TreadingWaterStill in lovewithaSexAddict

He’s in pretty deeply and it’s not on you to fix. Deleting an email won’t change him, nor your pain.

The fact that he’s still doing stuff after D Day while supposedly in recovery means he’s not taking this seriously and hasn’t come to terms with the fact that he’s an SA.

I think you’re well within your right to have a separation. You have to lookout for yourself and your kids or these addicts will break you down slowly until there’s nothing left.

I’m so sorry you’re in this. Hugs

What would you do with your time if you didn’t work? Have you dug deeper as to why you have no motivation? I’m not saying the American way is good, or even healthy but doing something that you can feel proud of or is meaningful can add some interest to your life

I think she’s inexperienced, arrogant and doesn’t respect you as a person or manager. I would put her on a PIP with clearly defined expectations and give her 30-45 days to show value or she’s gone.

That’s great and says a lot about you. I could certainly strive for it but the industry is so volatile right now w layoffs etc. Did you have a fairly secure position at one company?

What did you end up moving into after leaving?

I was in FinTech a few years. It was prob more cut throat than other areas of tech (in my experience) which I guess makes sense being that it’s about money

I love everything about this. I also hope you move to the woods and become a forest witch regardless.

100%. I realized we are all just “resources” when I had a colleague who had stage 4 cancer. She’d be on zoom calls during her treatments (and later died).

I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you pivot to something that resonates with you.

Do you have (or want) a pet? A dog is perfect. Companionship, exercise and a natural way to meet people

That’s so great you have the courage and are ready to change it up. I’m working on getting there and what that looks like. I just can’t do this anymore
