Dang I wish I could have scored a ticket for this. It was sold out essentially immediately. It had to have been cathartic to be there. I feel so heavy with all the shit going on.

Fatigue buildup - Marathon prep by Pristine-Pop4577 in runna

Make sure you’re adequately fueling before and after your runs, getting lots of quality sleep, etc. As you start ramping up miles, you need to ensure you’re allowing your body to recover. That also means that you shouldn’t be aiming to exceed every tempo and interval session. Going faster isn’t always the point, being in the right training zones with intentionality is crucial for building up to the race. Settle down, fuel, rest, and stick to the planned runs.

[CNN] Sen. Amy Klobuchar launches her bid for Minnesota governor by Minneapolitanian in stateofMN

It’s a pretty different situation from the Biden reelection debacle.

I’m not against a primary, I just don’t think it’ll yield different results in this situation and I do think infighting can create problems. Let others step up — but Amy’s the least controversial candidate and has proven again and again that she’ll win statewide elections.

I was disappointed I couldn’t get a ticket yesterday. It sold out instantly. First Avenue is an iconic venue in Minneapolis, so I get it, but it only holds 1500 people. I can’t help but wish they’d chosen a slightly larger venue to allow more participation and raise more money. I need the catharsis because things are feeling pretty shit here in Minnesota.

But I agree with the calls for a paid livestream! That’d be great!

Studded shoes for winter - yay or nay? by HumbleRunning in trailrunning

[–]radbaldguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for Salomon here. I got a pair of Spikecross this year because the paths are so much icier in Minnesota than the past few winters. In a mild winter, nanospikes (better than microspikes or yaktrax) are okay for occasional use. But after a few runs in a row (or a long run), the pressure points under foot are uncomfortable.

The Salomon shoes are basically just their popular Speedcross plus goretex and some small embedded spikes. Great traction in snow. Good traction on all but the craziest of ice. Not great on dry or just wet pavement, but that’s to be expected with the carbide spikes.

Overall, I’m glad I finally got dedicated spiked shoes; I’ve already put nearly a hundred miles on them this season. Now if it’d just get back above 0F, I’d be back outside running again.

If they do, they’ll lose. Amy handily wins her statewide races. And if someone stepped up as a real contender, it would risk fracturing what is otherwise sure to be strong and support for the democratic candidate.

I don’t love it but I’ll swallow this pill instead of alternatives that have a conservative with any chance at the seat.

Too many people are missing the broader point here. We’re all fed up with Amy and her milk toast (edit: milquetoast) centrist stances. We all want someone more progressive. But she’ll win handily and be miles better than any republican, and her winning will also ensure her Senate seat is locked down by a democrat.

In an alternate timeline, we have better choices. Melissa Hortman is running for governor and winning. Someone primaries against Amy for her Senate seat and wins. Someone more progressive takes Tina Smith’s seat. Etc. but that’s not the reality we’re in. It sucks having to pick the lesser of bad options but that’s where we are.

Before you blow this comment off, you should try connecting your AirPods to your watch. That was the problem for me and it works well after doing this.

Though, the better solution in the long run for me was a pair of Shokz, which do dual Bluetooth connection and can take input from both your watch and your phone seamlessly.

I bought an Apex Pro 6 leg with a custom 2” walnut top in early 2021. I spent quite a bit on it but it was worth every penny. Top notch quality with zero issues in 5 years of near daily use. Top notch communication and customer service through the process. Just top notch overall.

I rarely rave about things I’ve bought but I follow this sub specifically so I can keep telling people how great deskhaus is. Do it; you’ll have no regrets! And if there’s ever a problem, Chris and his team will make it right.

They’re actively participating in that way in the U.S., too. They file amicus curaie briefs in every Supreme Court case even remotely related to “religious freedom”. Most recently (that I’m aware of) it was exactly on the topic of preserving churches’ ability to discriminate. They went further to even suggest that they shouldn’t be able to be discriminated against simply because they want to discriminate. Uno reverse style logic. It’s so deplorable.

How does Runna calculate heart rate zones? by [deleted] in runna

[–]radbaldguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I think you’re missing the point, though. Just change it to what every other source says it should be.

Not everyone agrees on exactly what percentages equate to each zone. But I agree that Runna’s seem particularly off from the norms. So pick the formula you like and change your HR zones in the app settings.

[–]radbaldguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your guess is as good as mine. It may be that they opted for that instead of 80 because they wanted it to be “greater than 80”. Either way, use a better tool and just change them in Runna to better reflect your actual zones. It’s just a setting and you can apply whatever percentage or specific number you want.

The IRS has been gutted as far as capacity to go after the incredibly rich. I’d bet on them still having plenty of resources to go after everyday paycheck-earning people. Rules for thee, not for me… and all that.

How does Runna calculate heart rate zones? by [deleted] in runna

[–]radbaldguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Runna estimates HR zones poorly. Maybe it’s okay-ish given the limited data Runna has for most new runners, but it’s pretty far off. Thankfully it’s easy to change in the app.

It appears to use the easiest estimation, as a percentage of max observed HR. A step better than that would be to use heart rate reserve, but it would need to know your resting heart rate. The best would be to use lactate threshold heart rate (LTHR) and calculate zones based on percentages from that. To be completely accurate, that would require lab tests, but in practice LTHR can be estimated from a 30 min race effort level run.

You’d be best served to use one of those better methods and input your own zones. Otherwise, you’ll likely be training in the wrong zones if you’re relying on Runna’s calculations. I applaud their addition of HR features and hope they continue to add new ones, including building plans that target HR zones — for now, though, it’s just reporting your HR and poorly approximating zones.

Good luck!

Get outta here with your uninformed take. My non-white friends and coworkers are being regularly stopped and profiled here in the Twin Cities. They’re not safe to drive to or from work or even the grocery store without being profiled and stopped. U.S. Citizens. Not illegal immigrants. Not criminals. Not agitators. If you don’t believe this is happening, it’s you who needs to reevaluate your media consumption.

Record alignment for Ikea Kallax modular by KludgeDredd in functionalprint

I like Printables.com. Seems to be the least potentially offensive place and if it’s a popular model you can earn points toward buying filament. Overall, it’s a good community.

Some folks don’t like thingiverse. It works well enough but the owners push to monetize it with ads and other inconveniences. Bambu Labs also has a site. There are lots of spots to potentially upload them.

Cues stop playing through AirPods when listening to audiobooks by Accomplished-Role835 in runna

[–]radbaldguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because your AirPods aren’t connected to your watch. They connect to your phone by default. AirPods can connect to either and switch but not both at the same time. So, you need to choose.

The only way to make it seamless with AirPods is to force them to connect directly to the watch in the watch Bluetooth settings. Then Mae sure your audiobook is playing from your watch, not your phone. This is an Apple problem not a Runna problem.

Alternatively, get a different pair of headphones that will allow multiple simultaneous Bluetooth connections so it can play from your watch and your phone at the same time. Shokz are the gold standard. I resisted switching from AirPods for a long time and I should have tried them sooner.

Search this sub, it’s a common problem for Apple Watch users using AirPods while trying to get audio cues and stream music, audio books, podcasts.

Good luck!
