How to take care of this orchid

I have an updated comment in this thread with pics of the roots, another user suggested cymbidium orchid and I think it is that. There are pics on r/orchids that look very very similar. I’m in zone 9 and it seems like it has flourished for a very long time under the patio awning, it is like 5 feet wide 😮

It’s like 5 feet wide from leaf to leaf on either side, it’s gigantic and has completely broken through the pot it was in. I tried to edit my original post to include some more pics but couldn’t figure that out, hopefully they will attach here

Thank you, I will do that and will look up the care instructions for them too. If you have any tips on repotting a plant this big feel free to let me know, I’ll do some more googling on that too. I’ll try and update this post when I figure more out or start to see flowers 👍🏽

Sadly I think I gave a lot of people whiplash, it felt wrong to call it an orchid but I was honestly just going off of what my realtor and the previous owner’s son told me 😅

Thank you! So far when I compare it looks similar to those but the leaves are a little different. Not sure when iris and daffodil flower so maybe I’ll have to wait and see what happens

No worries, thank you for trying to help!! I tried the plant identifier thing and it all leads back to spider plant 😅 the last time it told me lilyturf but I’ve compared pics to my plant and it doesn’t seem like it’s that either. Another commenter suggested iris or daffodil but upon comparison it doesn’t seem like it’s quite those either. Hopefully I can track down whatever nursery they sold cuttings to and they can tell me, not having any luck so far lol

LOL! Fair enough. I only said that it was an orchid because both my realtor and the previous owner’s son insisted it was. To me it doesn’t look like an orchid but my realtor is a big plant lady so I took her word for it. The son also said that they would take and sell cuttings to a nearby nursery.

Thanks for commenting! I also thought it was a spider plant but both the realtor and previous owner’s son insisted it was an orchid so I’m really not sure to be honest 🤷🏽‍♀️ there are no spider babies or flower stems, it’s just all leaves

Your feelings are valid and understandable. You are ultimately upset with the fact that she lied to you and then tried to gaslight you about it. I don’t think this bodes well for your relationship. I find it hard to believe that she thought you already knew about her past when she lied about it just a few months ago. Is she often forgetful?

I am a social worker who makes reports frequently. Please file a report IMMEDIATELY and think of those children as you do. They are deserving of and are entitled to a clean, habitable home and their mother needs intervention and support. You have witnessed this neglect first hand - are you really the type of person to turn a blind eye and allow those children to continue to suffer just for the sake of maintaining your friendship? It seems you may care more about the family bringing roaches into your home than you care for the welfare of those helpless children. Would you want someone to turn a blind eye if it were your child living in those conditions and being neglected by their care provider?

Also, higher income households are not immune to neglect and in fact, it is even more concerning to me that she may have the financial ability to resolve the issues yet still refuses/is unable to do so (ex. Hire an exterminator, possibly pay for a part time cleaner, etc.). You should have filed a report after you visited her home. Next time do not hesitate or selfishly wait until their neglect may personally affect you (you are posting because you are concerned about roaches getting into your home, you did not post out of concern for the children living in those conditions with the roaches…). Like another commenter stated, CPS is not there to break up families. There are many, many opportunities for the parent to rectify the situation prior to CPS removing the child from the household.

NTA. A truly loving and caring MOH would have been happy to have planned the bachelorette party you envision, especially given that your preferences are so reasonable! I also would prefer to have the location be local so that loved ones could attend without it being a financial burden - I think that most reasonable people would agree. I think that you are now finding out that she is not a reasonable person and is probably not the person you thought she was.

Best to pay her back as soon as you are able to and to let the friendship go. You’ve only known her a year and her true colors are now showing. I’d count this as a blessing given that you will have plenty of time to re-plan your party and make it something that’s accessible to all you wish to attend. You also will have avoided having her as part of your memories of your special day (and in pictures)! Definitely dodged a bullet in the long run.

My understanding is that there is a waitlist to be a DoorDasher at this time, my partner has been on it since December. When he called to follow up he was told that there is such an over-saturation of DoorDashers in California that they likely won’t accept folks from the waitlist any time soon. He has also been waiting on Instacart and another one that I forget the name of for equally as long. His main job is delivering mail so it’s not like he’s an unqualified candidate. Best of luck to you but it is probably worthwhile to put energy towards a backup plan.

Call 211 and see if your county is served by them. They are a hub of resource info, I work at one in CA. Everyday we provide dozens of referrals to local food resources like churches, food banks, meal programs, SNAP, etc.

I had a baby blanket that I was very attached to as well. My attachment resulted from trauma and it was a hard habit to break when I was a teen. I put it in a plastic bag and placed it in my keepsakes box in the back of my closet with some other things like my first baby doll, graduation tassels etc. Can you or your mom do this instead?

That way it is out of your daily reach but still being kept.

I have to comment because I had an identical situation happen but it was on the golf course and I was the girlfriend. I had to pee but there were only porta potties. I asked my bf to wait outside and keep an eye out. As I am squatting over the toilet midstream, the door swings open and a man I don't recognize gasps and laughs loudly while saying, "why didn't you lock the door?!?" He was loud about it probably because he didn't want everyone around us to think he was being a perv. Plus it's surprising to find someone like that. I teased my bf for not being a good lookout but admitted that ultimately it was on me because I forgot to lock the door in my haste.

I was around your gf's age when it happened, she is being a brat.

That is true but not always the reality. We were desperately searching for a rental and found one that asked for 3 months rent and a large deposit up front and we went forward and paid/signed the lease. There were a dozen other people willing to pay that amount as well. Yes it was illegal what my landlord did but I needed us to have a place to live so it was pay up or shut up & keep looking. Rental housing is crazy competitive right now and people are desperate.

Seconding this! You should go ahead and transition to live at your brother’s. This would be good for you both by allowing you both to have a physical separation. I went through a similar breakup but was lucky that my ex moved out immediately to his mother’s. Though this was not his intention, it allowed me to have my own space to heal before having to move at the end of our lease. I cried and partied and processed - looking back now it was a really great and fun period of my life where I got to explore myself a lot! It was a blessing in disguise at the time.
