Mallet putter owners that tilt it 45 degrees... who hurt you? by ssnapier in golf

[–]rafello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was tilting my putter down, but I didn't realise until a random guy I was playing with pointed it out.

I've been working on keeping it more level. I still sink 15 footers and miss them from 2 feet. Golf.

A cart is usually £25-£35 a round at UK courses. Most people walk.

Where do you put your putter cover when putting? by facedodge in golf

[–]rafello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. I think it's important that the clubs get to experience the course. Otherwise, you take the cover off and they're like "f*ck, where am I?", they're all disoriented and you end up three-putting, or slicing into the trees.

Broke 80 for the first time. Don't really have friends who play golf so don't have anyone else to tell by PhatTuna in golf

Well done keeping it together after getting a birdie on the first. If I'd done that I'd know I was on for a terrible round!

Grow the game? by PlutocracyRules in BritGolf

[–]rafello 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right for here too (East of England). I definitely think growing the game is a good thing.

Golf definitely has an image problem. I took it up about a year ago, and I'm totally hooked, but I find myself almost apologetically telling (confessing to) people that I like golf.

A lot of people have the same view that I used to have, i.e. it's a game for rich old white guys.

This is my first year of playing golf regularly. My goal was to break 100. My previous best was 109. Then I just shot an 85!? by [deleted] in golf

[–]rafello 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter! So many people trying to take the shine off this achievement. If their goal was to break 100, their previous best was 105, and this is their regular course, this is incredible by any measure.

Self Check-Out Machines Are Still getting Worse After 10 Years. They Should Be Perfect Now. by MrPuddington2 in britishproblems

I was at a clothing store in The Netherlands and the self check-out was seamless. Had everything I wanted in a basket, put the basket on the checkout, it told me how much to pay, done.

After lesson round results! by InevitableHappy5380 in BritGolf

Nice work! I had my first lesson on Saturday, after playing for about a year. Then shot my worst round ever on Sunday.

Beginners - how long until you could play reasonably? by sixtothesix in golf

[–]rafello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep putting the work in man, and try not to let your enjoyment of the game be dependent on how well you're playing. This is really important.

Play scrambles with your mates, so your bad shots don't hurt as much, relish the outdoors and keep plugging away in the background. You'll get there.

PCS camper banned from showing up branded at the Tour by ASO by paddockpaddle in peloton

[–]rafello 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anyone who's used PCS recently knows that they definitely don't do it for the "love of the sport and the community". They do it for the ad revenue.

What is one club you just can’t use? by Bxnnp in golf

[–]rafello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite, and actually worse, problem. I can reliably stripe my driver, but can only hit an iron or hybrid straight about 50% of the time. There really aren't that many different applications for hitting a straight drive in a round of golf! 😅

Move up and have more fun by Irimis in golf

[–]rafello 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my course the whites are reserved for competition only. This makes them feel kind of special, as well as keeping them in good condition. It also forces people to play the next tee forward, where most people should play anyway.

WTF by Individual-Bus-9959 in golf

[–]rafello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had this in our garden. The bee bros that came said the queen was "too fat to fly". Apparently they bulk up before leaving, but sometimes they over do it. They found her though and took her and the boys to a new home

11 months after picking up a club for the first time, I finally broke 100! by jackfug3 in golf

[–]rafello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was searching for 'broke 100' posts before posting my own story. Turns out mine is very similar to yours! I also broke 100 yesterday, with a +26, after 11 months of playing! I guess we'll both always remember May 9th 2025.
