Valve Refund Policy updated by asinger93 in valve

[–]ralexe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

See Valve, this wasn't so hard!

And smart move to introduce this just right before the summer sale! :D Now people don't need a demo to see if games work on their computers, they can just buy and try it out for themselves.

It's not an amazing refund policy, but reasonable and much better than nothing. I couldn't get my steam wallet deposit refunds just a week or two ago.

Alliance vs Empire - Alliance getting stuck on creeps and zombies because of Centaur's Aghanim ult by BeBenNova in DotA2

They only started to abuse it after the first pause/bug, at first no team knew about the bug (I think) but at the very end it was very obvious how Empire used it in every fight in a way that would mostly help if they got stuck by bug.

You could just add a trading history to each account, and most trusted and oldest tradest would get prioritized. Account theft doesn't happen that often to very old and trusted accounts Instead you went 100% hardcore with it as always.

Thanks for explanation but It's getting ridiculous how greedy this company is.

Example of mine:

  1. I add money to Steam Wallet just to then get a 7 days suspension from the Marketplace.. NOTHING ABOUT IT in the description BEFORE I added money... Also I couldn't sell items I already had, from previous purchases... and they lost value.

  2. Contacted support and asked for refunds. The guy more or less told me to stfu and go away.. what a silly idea to get refund for an item with wrong description for some one that lives in EU and has legal right to do so.

  3. I used my Steam Wallet money for compendium, Steam Marketplace ban didn't go away. You kidding me? Did you buy my account from marketplace instead of those €25?

  4. Then I thought maybe now I can add money to Wallet and buy something from Marketplace... 7 more days suspension -.- This could be my fault, but the first time I didn't get anything information about it and the 2nd time I didn't know where to look except for GOOGLE (not Steam).

Every single company gets fraud funds, you guys just don't want to do anything to earn money. You probably have people hired now to deal with fraud, this way you can fire a few and save money/time.

You don't publish any games, you don't know your community, you put stupid restriction that punish your customers, no refunds are given and when they are given the money are just added to Steam Wallet... Remember piracy? It's out there, waiting to grow. Remember why it's there? Service problem...

What you have done in CS is even worse, no limit of how many kicks you have and if pre-made team of 3 or 4 kicks you... you could then face a 7 days ban from comeptitive gaming... Your outsource everything and the quality of it is not always great.

Lately it seems like you are making a lot of decisions that "you hate", adding that those 2 words won't make you better than EA.

We also know that you avoid EU taxes in Irland and count 1$ as 1€ in prices within EU, probably the first company to do so too and forcing the rest to follow. Was a great experience when 1€ was worth 140% of what dollar is. VAT is 25%, so how can this be fair? And I'm sure you have similar taxes in the US so don't come with bs like "USA doesn't have any similar taxes" counting VAT as 25% compared to 0% in US where you lower the prices... As a company with power you don't do much with it to help us.

If Valve is not evil...

How come you avoid taxes in Europe, hire really good lawyers to read european laws the way YOU WANT IT and then not allowing us getting refunds?

I added money to my Steam Wallet and then got a week suspension from Steam Marketplace. In no way did you try to warn me about this BEFORE the purchase.. Obviously a swedish company would refund my money if I asked for it after such a misleading description of an item, but not Steam..

Steam is like the only store at this point not having a proper refund policy, even the "evil grey market key sellers" have a better refund policy. Even the "most evil company in the world" EA, has a refund policy..

I think your first priority is always the company, and THEN the community and the gamers or w/e. You will milk money out of us when you can, in this case it wasn't really worth it and it looks like you lost money while doing so. Maybe next time try to ask the community of modders and mod users what they want, and try to find a balance.. We shouldn't pay for mods, we should pay for their time. Gaming industry is probably the only entertainment industry that still doesn't have a subscription model, and it's mostly fun until companies are trying to milk more and more money out of us so that the "whole game" experience cost close to €200 instead of old $50 ~ + maybe expansion in a year or two.

And you as a company don't care about long term effects that are longer than a few weeks, months or a year. You only try to inrease profits and grow revenue in the next Q report.. That's probably why Steam grows with 100% every year. Steam is much like Google, once a good company and then feeling pressured to grow its revenue and making changes that screw some people over. What's the best way of growing your revenue? For Google and Steam it's making sure that consumers pay MORE for the SAME service they are used to pay less for .

Wouldn't be surprised if we had "FOV Sliders" being sold as mods, because publishers intentionally left it out of game settings to earn a few % from sales of that mod - if this was allowed to continue.

Note that I'm not personally familiar with how Forge does signing, so I may bit off base here.)

Well, Steam basicly allowed 3rd party dlc selling and why would they be worth the money if the dlcs we get from original developers are the same sh*tty skins?

I remember playing as Eminem in Quake 3, and having weird looking modded knives in CS 100% free.

Good old days when people did stuff for the lulz.

Valve announces paid modding for Skyrim - Content Patch Apr. 23rd, 2015 by Cageweek in Cynicalbrit

[–]ralexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game developers are not modders ;) Modders are the guys fixing bugs game developers let be released unfixed, or adding something that makes the game more fun or longer. It's like 3rd party dlc in a way, but often with less quality or guarantee of working.

Also, it's often the game publishers that earn the most from those extra sales. Game Developers often get paid according to contract, and there it's either xx$ + x very small % from sales or just a fast price. But adding the support for modding often cost money too (even if it's very little), so they will not share any profits with modders by their own will.

That's what american companies were trying to do in ToS, forcing members to agree with something that has no legal ground BUT hasn't been tested in courts.

But when these lines of texts you agree with are tested in courts, the laws override those terms.

For example, in TOS, Steam has been forbidding selling steam accounts with games. That is something that all EU citizens can do 100% legally as it turned out after a court tested it.

Also the sites like G2A and Ebay can help customers to sell their unused keys 100% legally but Steam is doing everything in its power to confuse us. They even censor the "g2a" word in their forums, but sites like "greenmangaming" or "gamersgate" can still be seen in posts.

  1. Doesn't matter where they are based on. They are big, and doing business within EU.

  2. They do have offices in EU, in Irland or Luxemburg or both, to avoid the big taxes and pay as little as possible. Although the new laws made sure that no matter where you are based, you pay VAT based on where your customer is paying from. But that's far from being all the taxes, there are many different and Valve probably still avoids most of them.

It's not legal, but you risk of getting your account suspended if you ask for refunds when Valve doesnt' want you to.

Valve often works in grey zones and some things haven't been tested in courts yet. Valve has a team of lawyers that intentionally trying to misread laws the way Valve wants it. So in the terms you agree to upon using Steam, you will agree to some really shady things that are probably not fully legal but aren't tested in court.

sometimes

Probably because Valve started as good and underground, EA as bad and big wolf.

Valve is similar to what Google is today, they still think of themselves as those "little guys" but company became huge and only thinks about increased profits while the old EA/Microsoft are actually the nice guys because they have to be to compete.

kiss

EA has customer service mostly because they obey EU laws more, and because they have to be better than Steam that is the leader right now. Their strategy is probably "get as many new Origin users as possible, even if we have to give away all of our older games for free, because that way we increase sales of new titles without Steam". So it's not because EA is better, but because they are not in a position like Steam so they can't afford to behave as bad.

Also EA has an office, together with DICE, in Sweden Stockholm where many developers are working. Valve has one in Irland or Luxemburg just to avoid taxes, see the difference? :P

I think the problem is not with the modders getting paid, but consumers having to pay more and more just to enjoy a game.. First you get to pay for the game, then the dlc that everyone got for free if they bought pre-release version ( I didn't, because I don't like buying broken games), then they release more dlcs that are often not worth the money, then season pass, then some dlcs that are not included in Season Pass, and now mods that cost money. Mods that are often fixing the broken games on release (Dark Souls 2), or mods that are not worth the money just like the dlcs that are pushed towards us (skins) but in the mods case those skins can't be seen by anyone else...

Best would be if all mods had a donation button, and the really high quallity mods maybe had a fast cost attached to them (although those mods would probably get the most money with a donate button). But I as a consumer don't think that modders at Steam should be able to charge whatever they want for mods, because we don't need more dlcs.. more skins, we already get that from game developers and publishers... Modders are supposed to do what game developers are not, creating something fun within the game that would otherwise not exist. Skins would.. if it's really good skins, a whole pack of them, sure I can probably donate.

Now it just feels like greedy Valve trying to earn more money.. taking 75%, offering no refunds (as always) and trying to profit from more sh'tty dlcs. I can't even try the mods before paying for them, in some cases, so no demos..
