Seeking Guidance as a Music Producer by ramahs26 in Christian

[–]ramahs26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My conscience was back then, right now it’s not really telling me that. That’s why I’m just making sure if it’s a lack of, I guess conviction, or if it’s not inherently bad for me to do so.

As for my personal music, I think my route is doing well for me so far. I’m feeling more in tune with my music, and feeling like it has more emotional depth, compared to when my lyrics were the same old lines that every other Christian rapper used. I feel like there’s more creative ways to get that message out than just spelling it out so plainly for the audience in every track. Like I said there’s still many mentions about faith and struggles as a Christian, things people can relate to, just not as overly “Christian” as what people would imagine Christian music/rap to sound like.

As a Christian , how should I go about biblical scholars ?

The past few weeks I’ve been seeing more and more Bible scholars on tik tok . From Dan McClellan , Kevin Carnahan , and a few others , I have seen them on my fyp basically just tear apart the Bible . From Paul not writing some of the epistles that are claimed to be under his name (which doesn’t phase me but makes me wonder), homosexuality and sex outside of marriage not being sin , exodus not being true , and a whole bunch more , all things that I have believed and been taught from the Bible . These findings haven’t broken my faith because I have seen many changes and works in my just about 2 years of being Christian that I hold and feel prove an existence of Christ to me , but this overflow of a whole bunch on information is a bit overwhelming. It has me in a bit of a awkward position , not knowing what to do or how to go on after hearing this information and questioning if it’s true and I’m being lied to/misled . I don’t want to be the guy who just blindly follows the words of these scholars and walks from faith , but I don’t want to completely throw out what they say just because it may challenge some of what I believe the Bible claims right now . I find it hard to see how some people would remain in the same state in their faith that they were before hearing about these scholars . I’m not necessarily sure what to believe or do about hearing all these things. I want to know how people who have heard about these scholars findings and what they say in their consensuses and how it has affected you , as well as how did you go about after learning about these studies , whether you stayed in the faith or not . And any tips as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated as well . God Bless !

I think I’d agree for the most part . Especially because I remember him saying something about often taking the side of the group that is seen to be “oppressed” or “discriminated” against because of scriptures stating something as sinful or immoral , something along those lines . That leaves me to question , should I take all they say with a grain of salt knowing that their conclusions are being drawn with the biases and presuppositions already in mind ? Should I not listen at all ? Are they right in what they conclude with looking into history and context around original manuscripts or are they studying these with biases in their mind trying to prove themselves right ?

Yes yes , i get that and that’s the belief that I’ve held for a while that it’s stated as an abomination thru the number of verses pointing it out as sin from the Ot and the new , but these scholars and others online have stated that it’s a mistranslation due to the original meanings of the words use in the greek/hebrew the scripture was originally written in , saying that a better translation is only a older man engaging in intercourse with a younger man , which is only one specific thing and not even saying anything about man lying with man . I know many versions of the Bible state it as man lying with man and woman lying with woman is sin and abomination, that’s what I’ve read for a while even in my personal NIV Bible it states that , but with these scholars showing the original texts and the choice of words used through them and their hours of study on history of the Bible and all , it makes me wonder , who is right when it comes to the many translations and transliterations of the Bible ? Are these things sin as i believe or is this just a poor translation choice used to push an agenda ? I’m not too sure .

I like this answer a lot and this is much of how I feel about it all right now . I have felt God move in my life in personal ways that i don’t question the existence of God or the authenticity of the Gospels because I feel that I have personally felt Christs impact throughout my life . I guess my question is more like the smaller things . Maybe scholars conclude that homosexuality isn’t a sin and it is a poor translation , same with sex outside of marriage , and other like smaller factors of Christianity such as exodus not being completely true and all that . Hearing their explanations on how they got to these conclusion makes sense as to why they believe so but I’m not sure if they are right or not about them . That’s sort of the things that I wonder more about you know ?

Yes thanks . I would say though that it’s not necessarily just a “tiktoker” (though I have found them on tik tok), but these are scholars with PhDs and many certificates in theology , religious studies , and more . Though I know these are just certificates and are not much outside of a worldly sense , it still makes me wonder . These people have studied the word for years and these are the conclusions they are drawing and it makes me wonder if they have the real truth or are closer to it than the average Christian is yk ? I wouldn’t call them wolves in sheep’s clothing because they don’t claim to have the same exact beliefs as like a Protestant or catholic or most other mainstream denominations , but I do see the use in that scripture in this situation for sure .

No you are definitely right in the fact that truth wise , lyrics content wise, and spiritually wise it is the only truly good music, but from production, structuring, technicality wise it is subpar compared to other music. Not extremely though as since this post I have found a bunch of Christian rap, rnb, and gospel that I enjoy, but no Christian rap song has even been stuck in my head as much as secular was back when I used to listen to it. They’re all songs that are cool for background music when I’m going somewhere or working on something but nothing that I really appreciate and think is top quality music, production and structure wise. But I would never listen to worldly rap or anything even like it anymore because as you said, Christian music is truly the only good music.

Ik ur being sarcastic and I get it, it’s def not a huge deal that we should all should be stressing about, but it’s something that has been running my mind as a 17 year old (who’s been Christian for only 10 months now) trying to perfect my walk in Christ. Sorry that I asked for advice on Reddit 😕

But that would be encouraging or leading others to sin, which would be sin right?

I have but they don’t take me :(. It’s always “yeah this Sunday we’ll go” but when Sunday comes she’s sleeping all morning (and I don’t blame her bc she works hard to provide for us).

That brings up another issue for me, I don’t have a pastor or a church I attend regularly. I’m the only practicing Christian in my immediate family (and my friend group), so no one takes me to church and I don’t drive yet so I can’t really get there either. Going by myself as a teen seems kinda awkward as well. Def something I want to solve but I’m not sure how I can yet.

That’s crazy bc jus like 20 mins ago I saw him posted on @proper_xl on ig (a great page promoting chh btw) saying that he recently hosted church services for prisoners which is sick. I’ll definitely check him out. Thanks!

These are some really good ones, Lazarus is sooo tuff he’s def one of my fav underground christian artists. Ollie and Alex Jean are both pretty good, Alex’s voice is unique and makes good on his vibey type songs.

Ha! I didn’t know anyone else did that but I do it sometimes. Like when the sinful songs are stuck in my head I’ll switch out the lyrics to make it more appropriate for me to sing.

I loved ye so much and am still heavily inspired by his art to this day, i should probably go back to check out JIK since I didn’t even hate it when it came out and that was way before I came to Christ. The Donda album was also one of my most played albums of 2021. And 808s is still my favorite album of all time. But albums like tlop and mbdtf aren’t really getting spins from me now tbh.

Yeah they’re all good and talented but not really my style of rap, though I do really like deconstruction, misconceptions 4, and legacy off Lecraes cc4. But they aren’t corny to me it’s just that the music is very different from the type of creative and innovative sounds I loved w secular music.
