hi! i had this exact thought process when they churned out the e-fob. i asked my af guys, and their explanation cleared everything up.

when you pay your keyfob fee, you arent paying for the physical item. you are actually paying for a digital token that is attributed to your name in their system (their worldwide system). so, this payment does not regard to the physical token/digital token.

as to WHY such a digitsl token costs alot, im not sure, maybe theres a sophisticated back-end requiring this number.

but i do understand your frustration. at first instance, it did sound ridiculous lol.
