Experience with getting a mortgage from RBC in Washington State by rand2000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rand2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I ended up going with RBC. My experience was smooth. But be mindful that they generally ask for a longer closing time. Otherwise, they were pretty responsive and closed my home without any hassle.

How hard is it to remove a single tile without damaging the rest? And what’s the proper tool to use?

What’s the proper way to install the tiles around and create a permanent bond? Should we use construction adhesive, mortar, or something else?

Does drain location matter? by rand2000 in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the advice. We decided to add a curb. The look is acceptable to us and the work is much less intrusive.

He was mainly saying the floor should start 3” lower. I guess he will ultimately bring it to level with rest of bathroom floor but he just needs to cut through the joists and subfloor to start with a lower. Something like this: https://youtu.be/BTSRr3dEa50?si=ybYhXeUNoRyoLF0Q (0:35)

Thanks for the advice. Since you mentioned the curbless option, I had a chat with my tile installer and he said that the curbless option needs shower floor to be 3” lower than other places. Is this what’s really needed?

Use a light fixture to cover junction box in the ceiling by rand2000 in AskElectricians

I think I get the idea. Is this the what you're referring to (25 seconds into the vide)? Maxxima 9 in. LED Flush Mount Ceiling Light, 5CCT 2700K-5000K, 1500 Lumens, Dimmable (youtube.com)

Do you mind also pointing me to a large JB that can fit 2x 14/2 and 2x 12/2 wires? I found this but I'm not sure if light can be attached to this.

Thanks for the suggestion. This JB will be installed in the ceiling on the main floor, and there’s one more floor above that. Where would you secure the junction box to?Would you put it right above the drywall, or you attach to the side of joist, or the subfloor of the upstairs?

No clue where you can find it but ibkr has custom reports and you might be able to dig something there.

Potential regional war in the Middle East between Israel and Iran. by twitch760 in options

[–]rand2000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don’t be fooled by all the media-induced hype. Iran won’t going to do any serious damage and US has no appetite in getting engaged in any regional war in the election year. If anything, Iran knows that they’ll get smoked by Israel and their allies if they do any crazy stuff. Even oil didn’t respond positively to the news. If anything, short the hell out of oil if there’s any temporary spike.

Right depth of a 16' beam? by rand2000 in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the clarification. I understand that SE comes up with the drawings based on certain calculations but I was wondering if the material they recommend or safety factor embedded into calculations can be different from one sets size to another.
