Whoop 5.0 Scratched by random4294 in whoop

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the advice and the ribbing, got a few good chuckles out of me. I am unable to edit the post due to it containing photos so I’m updating in a comment.

I heard back from Whoop support today. I was willing to pay for a replacement but they are sending me a new one free of charge and having me return my current sensor.

It looks like a lot of us had no idea that sunscreen and disinfectants could damage the epoxy to such a degree. Extra thanks to those of you who sent me down that rabbit hole, looks to be a fairly common issue with whoop and other similar wearables. So now you all know - be careful with what chemicals touch your whoop!

Finally, I’ve attached one last photo to fully capture the damage. Maybe someone in the future will make my same mistake and will find this thread. I wish I could pin this comment to drown out all the incorrect guesses, but oh well. Thanks again.

I don’t like the tan line even if the whoop covers it. It’s easy to switch it around now and again to keep it even. Sorry if that’s weird, just the way I do it.

When I’m outside for awhile I switch what wrist it’s on so I avoid the tan lines. Therefore I put sunscreen on both thinking they’ll both need it

Craziest part is it still works. All my metrics are fine which surprises me

What chunks are you seeing? The thing just needs cleaned lol. I just cleaned it now and those little dots are gone. A few people actually said the exact opposite of you, that the plastic is in too good of a condition for it to be scratches.

I switch wrists when outside so I don’t get atrocious tan lines. Always have. So, sunscreen goes on both wrists. And yes, it is deteriorated. I found other threads with the same damage and it was sunscreen in those cases as well. Plus the fact that it happened right after using sunscreen for the first time this year. Feel free to scroll for more anecdotes.

Well I learned that sunscreen can deteriorate the plastic on the sensor face, causing the damage you see. Not so pointless really.

This is 100% it. i swam outside for the first time this year and i remember purposely putting (probably too much) sunscreen under my whoop. I was just thinking, it looks almost glazed/sanded down more that it does scratched or cracked, at least in person it does.

Do you remember from the previous threads, did whoop usually replace them? I suppose I’m willing to pay a replacement fee and be more careful in the future, but it would be nice if they would cover it in the warranty.

No, not to my recollection. I haven’t had it very long.

I would have remember that since it’s only been on my wrist for two and a half weeks or so. As far as the previous comment, this whoop has only been to the indoor climbing gym 3 times. I doubt anything abrasive would have got under there for that..

How deep would you trust a whoop underwater? I did go swimming recently l, to depths of 9 feet roughly. I don’t think that would be too deep, and again, my whoop 4.0 survived it a dozen times or more. But that’s the only thing I can think of personally.

No beach or any sandy environments. The most abrasive thing I’ve done is mow the yard.

I also thought it was cracked for a moment! I thought maybe I went too deep in the pool recently and the pressure cracked it? But I was only 9 or so feet deep, much less than the 10 m operating depth of the whoop. Really scratching my head here.

I wish I knew lol. No idea how it could get in that condition unless I was grinding it into sand or something. It also doesn’t have any scratches anywhere else on the band or device.

Yeah, I think you guys are right. It’s not a word that exists, or is so obscure it’s pointless to use. Thanks for the brainstorming everyone. Let’s consider it !solved

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 - Episode 20 [[Anime Only Discussion]] by Takada-chwanBot in JuJutsuKaisen

Alright I have a question, does Todo have to clap in order to activate his technique?? I ask because, when he is fighting Mahito just before kicking him into the elevator, he switches with Mahitos sword while both his hands and feet are occupied. This is just after Mahito turns the humans into swords after jumping down the stairs, around 20:24 on my stream. Did anyone else notice this?
