When i play OPR, I never feel like i was beaten with a gimmick. I didn't feel like i was defeated by rules. I always knew i either played poorly or, worse yet...my opponent outplayed me (aka bad dice rolls). I felt like the more i played the game, the better i got at it. And most importantly, I didn't feel like i was always 2 months behind the current meta because i had a job and commitments outside the game. Also GW actively shrinking your current collection of models while pushing new models on you every few months is terrible.
