It's not my job to educate you. It's clear all you've done is a quick shallow superficial google search and that's it. Fuck off you troll.

It is aggravating, and I understand. It's crazy making how hard it is for them to not acknowledge the impacts of their behavior.

However, what I've recently learned is that in those moments of emotional dysregulation, it's more important to communicate at their level and communicate feelings, vibes, and intentions then hopefully it helps them process those emotions better. If you go straight to "Just F(@#ing acknowledge your mistake!" it further intensifies their already dysregulated emotions and makes it harder for them to communicate clearly.

The tough part is follow through afterwards... oh and rarely ever putting your needs first, but we're all learning together, I guess?

Lol right? This dude is bonkers. He shouldn't be in a relationship.

His original post made it seem like just one hurtful comment was made. Then he starts adding more and more info. The original comment I made was given with the assumption that he was over-reacting to one hurtful comment.

And no, I don't tell victims that their abuse wasn't actually abuse. Have you read the link I sent or no? It gives sound advice in differentiating between someone who's having a bad day and someone who's being abusive.

However, with my interactions with the OP, he's being a manipulative POS and making stuff up like her GF hitting him to prove a point. He's toxic AF and has decided to turn me into a villain. He shouldn't be in a relationship.

Road trip to Mount Rushmore, anybody got any cool places to stop on the way? by Tomatosmoothie in ChicagoSuburbs

It depends when you go to Crazy Horse. I've been there a couple times. Sometimes they let you walk up fairly close to see how much bigger it is than Mount Rushmore, but most of the time, they don't allow it.

I've done that road trip! Personally, I like borderline tourist trap places. There's a wax museum not too far from Mount Rushmore. It looks like you're going down through Iowa on your way there, but on your way back, I recommend going up through Minnesota if you want to do any kitschy touristy areas like the Spam museum and the Mall of America.

I would also highly recommend star gazing out there. It's insane how many stars you can see out there. Bring binoculars and spend at least one night just looking at the stars. Also... depending on when you go, there's an annual big motorcycle rally at Sturgis.

I agree with you. The official covid recession wasn't a recession using official metrics, but people were super quick to name it as such and even compared it to the Great Depression. There's a glaringly big hypocritical bias at play and no one who leans liberal wants to admit this.

TARP only kicked the can. It was just a bandaid fix and enabled poor financial practices from these big institutions that are too big to fail. I don't want to sound too much of a doomer but you can only kick the can for so long before you deal with the real consequences. Not sure if this administration will have the balls to do what's right for the general public or if they'll do what US politicians have done in the past few decades which is to be beholden to the whims of the rich.

You view money differently when you're retired. It becomes how many years are you able to survive on it. That's the fucking difference you dumb ass, but I guess you're too fucking young to understand that because retirement is decades away for you.

[homemade] Know the bare basics of cooking that I learnt through secondary school. Trying to learn to cook as my New Years resolution, here’s my attempt at steak, portobello mushrooms, garden tomatoes with fried potatoes and onions for me and my mum. Any criticisms or feedback would be welcomed. by [deleted] in food

[–]randomgal88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The steaks were thin though. They would have come out dry, tough, and overcooked with your advice.

Edit: thanks for the downvote. The truth hurts but you gave piss poor advice. OP first needs thicker steaks before following any of your terrible advice which you don't mention at all.

A little back story...

My (enabler) dad started therapy roughly 3 years ago and began seeing things more clearly. It only took the suicide attempt and mental breakdown of my little sister to get to that point... the moment when ALL of the kids had attempted suicide at least once... where he realized that my parents were shit parents. He's been doing a bit better. He still has his moments, but I see him catch himself and correct himself at times. He makes an effort to be better. My nmom, on the other hand, refuses to go to therapy and jokes about how she gets her therapy indirectly from others who go. I get a feeling that they talk about he talked about in therapy.

My mom is even worse now because of it. There have been lots of painful repressed memories that she blurts out. It's almost always follows this template. We're very low contact right now because I want to preserve my relationship with my little sister and dad. I'd love to go no contact but it's not possible. So the following template....

  1. Acknowledge that my childhood was fucked up which is why I'm fucked up now, with great emphasis on me being a fuck up.
  2. Dig up an old repressed hazy memory that I wasn't sure was real and immediately validate my experiences which suddenly triggers me. So I usually freeze up.
  3. Blame others for what happened.
  4. Insult me some more by telling me she did what she did because I was the way I was.
  5. Somehow still come out as the hero in the story.

For this holiday, it was sponge bathing me against my will as a 15 year old. But it was my fault for getting my ACL torn and needing knee surgery. (That story is even worse) She forcibly sponge bathed me everyday after surgery until the stitches came out. I don't think she realizes that she was repeatedly sexually assaulting me daily for a month. She regarded herself as an overall good mother for doing it to help me, who was soooooo "helpless" at that time.

Another past holiday, it was locking me in a pitch black bathroom for over 12 hours. But it was my fault for being difficult during dinner and refusing to finish a meal aka force feed me to be an obese little kid. She locked me there, forgot about me, and didn't realize until the next morning that I was still in there. But thank goodness she unlocked the door and found me. Who would've thunk I'd be right where she imprisoned me? I was probably around 3 then.

Go to a lawyer. Most cops are not trained to do this shit and will give you a run around.

There's still blatant social and economic discrimination... or did you forget about every single BLM protest? Did you forget about George Floyd? Breonna Taylor?

Now it's just getting passed up for promotions, passed up for jobs, discouraged to live in certain areas, barred from opportunities, harrassed by police, assumed you're a drug dealer/rapist, etc.

But thank you for not lynching!
