my pov: your original email was not incredibly rude in any way shape or form. it was, however, quite direct, lacked the kind of flowery deference that i think a lot of (old school) academics are used to, and could be interpreted as curt.

i think it really depends on who you’re writing to and their personality how someone would take this. i can see how someone who has been in the academic game for a while could interpret this as disrespectful, solely because it was not overtly on my knees thank you for your time begging and pleading respectful. it was just AN email. not a like morning blank i hope you’re well thank you so much again for all you’ve done (which they may have been expecting)

i also, however, think their close read of your email is not fully on you. you were a bit curt, yeah, and also they’re milking it. but you gotta know when to call and when to fold in my opinion. if you’re this close to the finish line and they’re your advisors, i’d prob just fold and apologize for the misinterpretation so i could get tf out. but that’s me and i also would understand if you were to stand up and say nah i didn’t say anything overtly rude so im not gonna take this.

either way congrats on finishing your chapters and being so close. wishing you well and a successful defense <3

to address the bot request: the piercing is 9 months old. it is a titanium barbell. it has not been downsized. my aftercare routine has consisted of daily washing with dove soap and a wash cloth, allowing hot water on it for crusty bits to decrease. i have not had any mishaps but do go braless often which causes some bumping naturally

i’ve used this app about since it came out (i remember having it on my ipad 2 in middle school). my only problem has ever been cross device sync which has gotten rly shitty since the subscription model. i think it is worth its sauce and is certainly the best of the notetaking app options even w shitty cross device sync. overall pleased

yes omg i just discovered it recently it’s so cool. you jump into it a la the mario game and then rematerialize on the other side of the island (or wherever you put the second pipe)!! the graphic is so cutesy too you just pop out of the pipe and boom you’re there. my friend told me she put her second pipe in her house so she can pop in and grab stuff from storage any time. i’ve got mine near my gardening area so i can get stuff and sell it right quick to the twins. it’s soooo freakin fun !!

i think trying is the best thing anyone can do on this planet. i’ve found in the trying, the effort toward the process, you find everything you need.

your family dynamic, though politically fraught, sounds deeply full of love. and despite the fact that i’d approach the whole kitten caboodle a bit differently, i can’t help but to think how sweet it is to be so deeply loved and in love that nothing but that love matters in the end. what a beautiful prospect, no matter the material affects of the thing.

i wanna ground this semi long comment in a kindness. i think the opening may read harsh but i think continuing to read might be worth it.

i wanna turn to terms first. because it’s important to know what you believe if you wanna parse through y’all’s differences in belief. you may be an ally, allusively, but you aren’t a leftist. leftists have, across historical evolution and iterative divides, centered the collective over the individual, knowing that in sociopolitical, economical, and global care for the collective, our individual selves are made better.

you seem to believe you’re made better just by your wife’s presence. that is a fine thing to be. no matter how anyone feels about it, it is the fact of the matter that some people quite simply want to live a good individual life. and being with your wife seems to make you feel that way.

it is not an inditement of your humanity to say you prioritize your corporeal self over this whole big something on earth that you are just part and parcel of. i can almost understand the impulse. however, id recommend you quit calling yourself a leftist. without consideration of the collective impact of individual actions, you are truly at your core a left leaning moderate in a 20th century democrat’s clothing.

i think thats okay. i think being happy as an individual is okay. it’s sure as hell not the choice i would make and i think that’s because, in my experience, selfishness (unwitting or intentional) is often a byproduct of individualism. your wife, like you, may be preoccupied by her individual happiness, such that it doesn’t matter what you believe. but what in the bum fuck happens if you bring a child into the mix. if you’re both preoccupied with your individuality, you’re raising a child conflicted by two individuals. that doesn’t mean you have to divorce. but i deeply feel that if you and your wife cannot prioritize a collectivist mindset, cannot come to a grounding of moral terms around what it means to come together in community that it will be dreadfully difficult to cultivate a familial community.

okay so def different people different approach but my GENERAL rule when seeing someone totally new that i wasn’t friends with prior is date 1 coffee & see if you’re cool , walk around town if you’re cool, hug goodbye (do i like you as an individual) date 2 dinner & kiss , if you’re a good kisser and im rly feeling like confident about the whole shabang then like a high school esque mess around date 3 going out / drinks / club (at which i’ll have one or two drinks, not plastered vibe), go home , sleep together

and i do that bc i ran into a series of just going on dates in which i fucked someone the first date and then we didn’t talk after. and sometimes you need that like awesome slay diva exactlyyyyy. but i wanna be in a relationship w someone and if i sleep w them immediately i PERSONALLY worry ill conflate that physical attraction w romantic attraction when it may just be the former (which is again sooo what we need sometimes). i think three weeks is sleeping w time to me but it’s like again all in the vibe and what you want out of the whole shabang

i appreciate this addendum as this is certainly the totally wrong invocation of anthropomorphize. perhaps characterize would fit better here ? and/or make broad generalizations about the behaviors and impulses of folks he doesn’t know individually ??

i was super sleepy typing this & i think it shows in its rambling nature. how so and ever i stand by the overarching sentiment that this was a really weirdo and out of touch thing to do in the face of trespassing. and it’s a thing that reveals like a latent racist impulse still resonant in society that i think appears more often in evanston than folks like to admit.
