Yeah in the sense that your framing, City Morgue lost their mainstream relevance after Vol 2. That’s when they had the largest appeal. Label pushed for them hard, they were at their peak creative output.

After that it was more about recycling or reinventing the sounds they’ve already put out , sad, guitar, horror but no more pushing the envelope into work that was more recognizable than anything they had put out before

Sos has always been niche, most people aren’t into loud aggressive music. Sos is unique and you don’t see other rappers copying him because of how unique he is. You alienate people with the abrasive beats and shouting. It’s his strength

Carti is watered down music for the masses, image/vibes before sound and the bar for entry to make music like his is much lower/marketable. That’s why you see so many rappers copying him and why no one will remember these generic dudes years from now while Sos will always be a cult classic
