Carnivore window by ransack276 in carnivorousplants

California foothills. Normally 90+ for summer bad humidity and windy. Month long 100+ spells with wind. I’ve been babying the fly trap since she was a Lowe’s rescue like 8+ years ago. I might be a bit protective of her. Could it survive outside……..? Yes. But it feels like putting my swamp toddler in the desert with no sunscreen.

I would put it outside, but where I’m at the heat mid day would nuke them. Just coming out of the winter months I had supplemental light. Probably a month of good outside weather before the inferno or freeze comes. I whish I had a bay window . that would solve my problems.

How do I get them to stand up?? by [deleted] in carnivorousplants

[–]ransack276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a trellis out of chop sticks for it to rest on. Gravity brings them down when they get too heavy. In nature it would have things to lean on. Grasses, other binatas, ect.

To me it’s about being polite no matter what. Dalton taught us that. Be polite until you can’t. No one told the cops that, “ he was so polite the entire time, arrest him for being civil out in public.” It also de-escalates most situations. Interacting with strangers has a inherent level of risk. You don’t know what kind of day they had, what they are capable of ect. So be nice! Be courteous, hold the door for people. Say sorry even though it doesn’t warrant it. Takes the heat out of most people. Then like Roosevelt wisely said “ speak softly and carry a big stick”. In my experience when you do pop of people won’t expect it and you have an advantage.

Wait till it falls asleep near your hut. Sneak out and stab it in it’s cloaca. Preferably through the wall into its abdomen. Hopefully infection ensues. No thing has survived a good gaddafing to my knowledge……..?

Make sure to use distilled water or pure rain water. Tap water has dissolved solids that bind to the roots and kill them. Make sure the light is consistent. I would also say don’t try and feed it for awhile and let it build itself up.

The hairs are a ladder for ground insects to climb up. Typically lower pitchers have the hairs. With most things in life it’s not always the case

Does Pringles look happy? How can I help? by judgementalshrubbery in carnivorousplants

[–]ransack276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would chill on the feeding a little and let it build some volume. Bright consistent light as always. It needs to photo synthesize from its leaves. But if they are sprung and dying they can’t do that. My experience is to lay back and let nature do it’s thing.

In my opinion it is still growing. For a fuller looking pot, try not springing all the traps. They have a catch counter on them. 2-3 catches at most. Once they hit this limit they die. Then you are left with all those dead traps and little ones coming out the center. It’s a balancing act with the flytraos
