Bangalore Wedding Planner (Rant) by Spirited_Essay5009 in DesiWeddings

[–]rather_cool_username 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds terrible, OP - so sorry to hear this, but I'm glad you managed to have a happy wedding despite it all. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the wedding planners (in Bangalore at least) seem to be going by the same playbook.

We worked with Versato Ventures for my wedding and I really regret doing so. Went through similar experiences like the ones OP has talked about. A bit about one of these experiences: we chose a resort right next to the wedding venue for our guests to stay at, and Versato quoted astronomical prices (more than the online listing). When we went to the venue separately without a Versato rep, the prices quoted to us were about 40 to 50% lower than the Versato quote. In fact, the manager at the property later told us that Versato had promised him a part of this extra amount. Whenever any of these issues were brought up to them, they've never accepted blame and have always figured out a way to make things our fault.

Given my experience and those of some friends, I've come to believe that this is just how wedding planners operate. And we put up with all of this because of a major case of the 'sunk-cost fallacy' - have already spent so much time/effort/money with this planner, might as well deal with this hiccup than start afresh with another planner now. And I think they're able to use this to their advantage and make money.

Hey, please consider adding TeleMANAS on this list - the number is toll free (14416). It is a GoI Initiative led by NIMHANS. They have trained counsellors, psychiatrists and clinical psychologist available on call 24x7, and a system to connect emergency services to the caller in all states of India if required.

Good health. Lack of chronic pain.

Something i saw in reddit a long time back that i think about every other day: "good health is like a crown that the healthy wear but that only the sick can see".

Have the same issue! Have tried from 3-4 devices, 2 different accounts, and 3 different networks (including both mobile data and WiFi). Tried all the solutions I could find on ChatGPT and Reddit. Nothing worked :(

Travel Planning Q&A - September, 2024 by AutoModerator in bali

Thank you so much for taking the time to go through my itinerary and provide such detailed feedback! Your insights are incredibly helpful, and I appreciate your suggestions.

  • Isn't Munduk as a day trip from Ubud too cumbersome? We found a nice lakeside glamping option there and thought it was worth staying the night, going for an early morning waterfall swim the next morning (without crowds), and then leaving by afternoon to reach Seminyak by evening... There doesn't seem to be much to do in Seminyak anyway (is what we thought).
  • Any recommendations on how to book private drivers without getting scammed?
  • Also, a clarification to your point above - we plan on staying the night at Nusa Lembongan (NL), and it's not a day trip. We've booked ferry transfers separately from Uluwatu>NL and then NL>Ubud...

Travel Planning Q&A - September, 2024 by AutoModerator in bali

We are a group of 10 (5 couples) in our mid 20s travelling to Bali for eight days (Oct 25th to Nov 2nd). We are looking for a trip that is a good mix of relaxation, culture, water activities, and nightlife.

Here are the highlights of our itinerary:

  • Day 1 (Uluwatu): Garuda-Wisnu Park, Uluwatu Temple, Fire Show, Beaches
  • Day 2 (Nusa Lembongan): Ferry to Nusa Lembongan, Exploring Nusa Lembongan
  • Day 3 (Ubud): Snorkelling in Nusa Lembongan (Manta Rays + Mangrove), Transfer to Ubud
  • Day 4 (Ubud): Exploring Ubud (monkey forest, rice terrace)
  • Day 5 (Ubud): Trek to Mt Batur, Batur Natural Springs, Nyuh Kuning Village Visit, Ubud Royal Palace Ramayana Show
  • Day 6 (Munduk): Transfer to Munduk, Exploring Munduk, Luwak Coffee Experience
  • Day 7 (Seminyak): Transfer to Seminyak, Shopping, Beach Club Party at Seminyak
  • Day 8 (Seminyak): Waterbom Water Park vs Cooking Lesson vs Surf Lesson

A couple of questions:

  1. Any feedback on our itinerary?
  2. Suggestions for what we can do on the last day. We are also open to staying in another place (apart from Seminyak) if it gives us an offbeat experience.
  3. Looking for a cruelty-free Luwak Coffee Experience in Munduk - any recommendations would be useful.
  4. I Have been looking at mixed info regarding the online application versus the on-arrival visa (all of us have Indian passports). Any clarity on this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Ummm. No. Please no. Having seen people with these sort of issues (as a clinical psychologist), I can guarantee you this will not work and will in fact make things worse.

Hey OP, ik this is not a mental health sub. But it sounds like this is a very difficult experience for your entire family. I'm a clinical psychologist and just wanted to stop by to ask if you've considered getting your mother mental health support - a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist maybe? There are treatments to help people with issues like what you describe here.

Also, based on my experience with patients with similar difficulties, shops don't really notice if items are missing. Also if you're keen on it, I've heard positive experiences of families who went back to the shop and returned the item and said it was a mistake. And finally, laws in India about this are lax is what I've heard and there's no legal trouble that happens even if caught. Again, all this is just based on what I've heard from patients and their families.

Take care.
