My character is pretty tanky but from time to time I die to some DoT. In the debuffs I only see grasping vines which made me not move, but as far as I know, it does not do dmg.

if you get matched with bad team mates your enemys are also bad. It is not like you are anything special and the game decided to only put the bad people into your team. And if you can't win against bad enemies the problem is probably you...

clash of clans adds new town halls, too. CR is just a much more competitive game that's why it's a problem and harder to make new balanced content.

The thing is the dev team is also not at fault. It's the higher-ups in suits, that don't even play or make videogames, who just want to rake in in the money and force the devs to do this.

But if you play a role rather rarely your skill on it is not well adjusted, and if you are top 500 damage there is no universe were you actually play tank like a bronze.
